Portraits of Miami

It’s more important to understand someone than to judge them. We think the first step to understanding someone is asking them the fundamental questions about who they are and how they became the person they are today. Understanding and empathy are essential building blocks for a better, more compassionate world. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to ask these questions each week through our interview series. Below you’ll find inspiring interviews from in and around Miami.

My story is full of ups and downs as an entrepreneur. I share a lot on my social channels @lameshianicole but in a nut shell I started out freelancing part time and did that for 7 years. In 2019 I officially got my LLC and hired business coaches to help me grow my business. In that process I’ve changed my mindset about life, money and business. Today I have gone from a soloprenuer marketer to a coach with two hired contractors for fulfillment. Coaching is where I am positioned for the long run. I’m glad about it. Read more>>

I actually got started in film and media production a bit later than most! I wish I could say I was like Spielberg, making home movies with an 8mm camera as a kid, but that wasn’t the case. I’ve always been curious and observant, and while my dad and grandpa took me to the cinema often, sparking a sense of wonder, it wasn’t until I was 19 that I realized I could channel that curiosity and my observation of human behavior into artistic expression. Absolutely, it has been quite the journey.

My journey into personal branding and business strategy was born from navigating corporate America as a minority woman, where the concepts of mentorship, coaching, and sponsorship weren’t exactly laid out on the table for me. I didn’t have anyone opening doors or guiding me until I was mid-career. But what I did know was that if I wanted to break through, I’d need to become my own advocate—and then some. That realization sparked a fire in me, not just to transform my own career, but to help others who, like me, weren’t handed a road map to success. Read more>>

I’ve always been drawn to the entrepreneurial path, even when it meant going against the grain. My parents wanted me to become a lawyer, and I was even set to begin my law degree. But two weeks before classes started, I withdrew my admission—losing thousands of dollars in the process—and moved to a new city to follow my own path. Read more>>

My journey began under extreme circumstances as a child, where I faced significant trauma that tested my physical, mental, and emotional limits. Surviving those challenges awakened a deep awareness of God’s presence, resilience, and the potential within every person to overcome hardship. Over time, I discovered that my calling was to turn those experiences into a purposeful path—a system designed to help others access the potential within themselves and turn it into power. From the Miami Fair we moved into Redland Market for almost a year, continuing to refine the concept, learn the business, develop new supplier relationships, and grow our customer base. The customer response continued positive and encouraging. We learned that there just wasn’t anything else like our shop anywhere in the South Florida area, Read More>>

After completing my pediatric residency at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, I pursued fellowship training in neonatology at Northwestern University in Chicago. During my fellowship, I focused on understanding the critical role of neonatal development, conducting research that explored how early-life conditions influence long-term health outcomes. My research allowed me to connect important dots between early cellular changes and later pediatric diseases, which further deepened my commitment to advancing neonatal care. Read More>>

Caco got ahold of a Boss MicroBR recording hardware and we started recording music under the name “My World Domination” to move beyond the rehearsing aspects of music. Years later, we realized it was time to expand our social life, so we decided to create a new band and use our music as an avenue to make friends in the scene, this becoming our main goal. There are many challenges with this mission. Many people do not understand the importance of reading, or they struggled as children, and now it’s just disregarded. I also hear all the time “my child hates to read,” which might be partially true; maybe they didn’t enjoy a couple of books they tried, but I truly believe that no child hates to read, they just haven’t found the right one! Maybe it’s a different topic or style than what they’ve tried before, but it’s not something we should ever give up on. Read More>>

I started my business in 2020 while on maternity leave. My sister owned a small boutique and was looking for someone to make candles to sell in her store but had difficulty finding anyone. Since I had some free time, I offered to make them for her, and I’ve been fully committed to candle making ever since. About two years ago, while attending an event, someone asked if I could host a candle-making class, and from that moment on, I’ve been conducting classes regularly. Read More>>

In sixth grade, I got my first job delivering newspapers for the Crescent News, braving the elements. Whether it was rain, snow, or sunshine, I would be out on my bike. When I got a moped, I worked Saturdays at Brookfield Farmers, packing boxes and loading meat orders. Later in high school, I worked at Marco’s Pizza, where I was impressed by Mr. Bueter, the owner of several Marco’s franchises in Northwest Ohio. He was young and hardworking, and his success and work ethic left a lasting impression on me. Read More>>

When I was 18, I bought my first house, thinking I’d rent it out for some steady income. But after crunching the numbers, I realized I could make a lot more by selling it instead. So, I sold it, made a nice profit, and that sale changed everything for me. I kept repeating the process—buy, flip, sell—and with each deal, I got better at it. Fast forward to now, I’m 21, and my company is on track to flip 80-90 properties this year. What started as a single sale has grown into a thriving business. Read More>>

I’ve always enjoyed working with people, and cultivating unique experiences. The foundation of The Love Label steams from my background in the hospitality industry. Working as a front desk agent through the Marriott franchise I had no clue what was in store for me. At the time we were strategizing different methods to personalize our guest stay at our hotel. I then established different designs and layouts based on the occasion they were celebrating. Unfortunately due to the spread of COVID 19 the hotel shut down. At a time where the world seemed to be at a pause The Love Label grew quickly. With the help of social media, faith, and consistency we were able to expand our reach to not just locals but tourist as well. Read More>>
