Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Castro.
Hi Tatiana , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
To know my business is to know my origins, and I’m a proud Colombian-American, who grew up as a kid that considered plants as my friends. I loved playing outside because I would do those activities with my family all the time. I honestly couldn’t think of a better place to grow up than Miami, and every weekend, my family and I would enjoy our free time at a new park and beach.
That’s how I fell in love with the environment. Pollinators became my friends, the clouds were endless sources of inspiration, and seeing flowers and fruits bloom year-round was the magic that made up my everyday life.
I’ve blossomed into an educator with a mission to teach children about the interconnections between plants, daily life, and culture. As an adult, I have grown to appreciate how culture and botany intersect. Through my nature education business, appropriately called Teachings by Tatiana, I have dedicated my career to bringing those stories to the children in my community. I make learning about science fun, creative, and memorable.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is hard but fulfilling work! It makes me think about starting a garden. There is a lot that goes into making sure the area gets enough sunlight, water, and air – and creating a business from scratch is very similar.
I’ve learned a lot about myself in the last three years, and realized that my true passion lies in the creative side of education. One of the greatest lessons I learned was that I do not have to do everything on my own – support is out there!
To help me in my entrepreneurial journey, I have found great relief and support from other business owners in my community to help me accomplish the work I put out into the world. I’ve been able to learn from copywriters, business coaches and marketing strategists that support my vision, and their support has helped me achieve my goals year after year.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Born from my love for botanic exploration, self-expression, and community, Teachings by Tatiana is more than an educational initiative, it’s a movement. My fond childhood memories outdoors have had such an impact on me that I’ve dedicated my career to creating positive experiences in nature for learners 5-12 years old.
Teachings by Tatiana offers the solution for adults looking to get their little ones interested and comfortable learning outside. Think of me as the field trip that comes to you. I travel in and around Miami-Dade County to facilitate workshops on topics like flowers, plant identification, and gardening basics.
What sets me apart is that I share information through storytelling and art making, which is an approachable way to connect to young learners. I do this sometimes in English, sometimes in Spanglish to create family-centered learning experiences. By blending science, creativity, and cultural awareness into hands-on learning, children and families are inspired to learn and grow together. Through the study of plants and related topics, my students expand their mindset, gain clarity, and grow into their green thumb with confidence.
Everything I do to curate educational experiences is very intentional. My clients have seen this in action and recognize my approach as creative and relevant to their own lives. I’m proud to say that in 2025, I more than doubled the impact of my speaking engagements, curriculum development, and workshop facilitation. Through my work with partners in Miami and across the United States, I was able to plant the seeds of curiosity in over 6,000 children around the country!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If you’re interested in making the magic of nature come alive for your little one, here’s how we can work together:
– Workshop facilitation: Book me to deliver public & private group activations on topics like gardening, plant identification, and nature journaling.
– Speaking engagements: Got a group you need to inspire? Invite me to speak at your site! I’ll cover topics like how plants are connected to our everyday lives, approaches to outdoor education for children or about my experience creating a career as a Latina in STEM.
– Education consultations: I’ll work with you to curate learning experiences for your little ones, or write and design interactive curriculum for your learners that makes botany fun!
