Hi Cheryl Trane, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi there,
We want to share a little glimpse into who we are at Tutorial Resources…..because while we may be one of Miami’s oldest tutoring companies (we’ve been around since 1980) we PROMISE…… we are anything but old-fashioned.
Think of us as a vibrant, always evolving team of 35 dynamic tutors, each bringing their own personality, expertise, and creativity to the table. We work with students of all ages and abilities, and no two learning journeys look the same, which is exactly how we like it.
What really sets us apart is our belief that learning isn’t just about grades, it’s about the whole child and developing a “feel good” attitude about self. We create fun, thoughtful, and sometimes even a little “outside of the box” lessons that help students grow, not only academically, but personally as well. Our goal is for EVERY student to feel more confident, empowered, and capable, both inside and outside of the classroom.
Most of our tutors travel directly to students’ homes, because…..well, convenience matters, Others host tutoring sessions in their own cozy home offices, because….well, sometimes it is just better to get outside of the chaos at home. We also work remotely with families across the country and even internationally. So, no matter where you are, we can meet you there.
Here is something we are especially proud of: we have never relied on advertising. EVERY family we work with has found us through word of mouth, from schools, therapists, doctors, and happy clients who know and trust what we do. In an industry where companies come and go, Tutorial Resources has remained…..continuing to grow, adapt, and thrive.
At the heart of it all, we truly LOVE what we do and we are so proud of the incredible team that supports our families every day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the unique challenges we face comes from our own success. We invest deeply in training, mentoring, and empowering our tutors, giving them the tools, confidence, and independence to truly excel. Occasionally, this leads some to branch out on their own. While we respect entrepreneurial spirit, many quickly realize that what sustains Tutorial Resources isn’t just great teaching. It is decades of trusted long term relationships and a strong referral network built over time. By then, however, the decision to step outside our model has already revealed a misalignment with our values, making it difficult to return. It’s a reminder that what we have built is not just a service, but a community grounded in trust, integrity, and long-term commitment.
Another challenge we are navigating is the rapid rise of AI and instant answer technology. Today, students can simply screenshot a problem or prompt and receive a solution within seconds, or rely on AI to generate essays and assignments. While these tools can be helpful when used responsibly, they often shortcut the very process that leads to real understanding and growth. At Tutorial Resources, we see firsthand that learning isn’t just about getting the right answer. It is about building critical thinking, confidence, and independent learning. That is where the human connection becomes irreplaceable. Our tutors don’t just provide answers. They ask questions, adapt to each student’s needs, and create meaningful relationships that inspire genuine learning.
