Rising Stars: Meet Chavell McIntosh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chavell McIntosh.

Hi Chavell, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a singer/songwriter from Jamaica, currently living in Miami, Florida. I have been singing since I could talk. I’ve sung on multiple church and school choirs while living in Jamaica and been a part of multiple groups. When I moved to Florida, music took a back seat for a long time, I got assimilated into climbing the corporate ladder and building a certain lifestyle for myself. My confidence in my abilities dropped, I would get extreme anxiety whenever I had to sing in from of anyone and my throat would just lock up. After having my son, he taught me how to love myself more, and he gave me the confidence to revisit my first love with a different mindset. So in 2019, I recorded my first Single called Hitting. YouTube university taught me how to arrange, release and market my music. I created an LLC through which I would release my work and even started building a creative studio that would assist me in creating all of my content.

Then the pandemic hit, lost my studio, lost my steady income flow lost a lot of opportunities that I had lined up to push my single. At that point, I made the decision to pivot, I would move back to Jamaica for a while and do the music there since it would be cheaper for me to live and make music. It was fun at first but found it a bit difficult to adjust back to island life. I met so many great people and had a spectrum of experiences. While gaining experience and learning, I got the opportunity to travel to Zimbabwe to work with various artists to see the country. Zimbabwe was such a life-changing experience. I got to connect with the country, people and culture. Work with the phenomenal artist, and introduce myself to a whole new genre and way of viewing music. I came back changed, ready to take on whatever the journey is wanting to through at me. I just released my second single, called strength, which is a great daily affirmation for everyone and can be found on all streaming platforms. I have a full Afro beats/Reggae body of work with some amazing African artists coming soon.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been smooth but I must say that I am very grateful. Even if I didn’t see it then, every obstacle or situation came to teach me something or help me get over other things so I am very grateful, even in the struggle.

My name is Chavell. I am a singer/songwriter from Jamaica, currently living in Miami, Florida. I specialize in reggae and afro-beats. Bringing dope melodies with dynamic drum kicks.

How do you think about luck?
Luck? Luck is for dreamers. Blessings and unlimited abundance is what work for doers that bring the dream to reality. Knowing how blessed I am to have this talent, how abundant I am to express it freely. That’s what keeps me going…
