Rising Stars: Meet Aaliyah Neloms

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaliyah Neloms.

Hi Aaliyah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was younger, I knew I loved food. But not just the basic American cuisine. I loved different cultures and traditions. So, in 2013 I attended my first culinary school but didn’t finish because of life changes. In the midst of Covid, I decided to start back cooking and selling my food. I made a business page and went from there. I started a new culinary school program in February of 2022. My business was started in Union City, Tennessee and we have been in Memphis, TN since December of 2020. I provide a personal chef catering for my amazing customers. I love to make families and friends happy by providing amazing meals!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey with my business has not been easy at all. When I started, I was a manager at Burger King and didn’t have enough time to service people. I also was the new chef in town even though I’ve been living in Union City my whole life. When I tried to work in different kitchens I was also seen as a host or server rather than an actual chef. I’ve been certified as a Chef since 2013 but barely got to use my certification. Now living in Memphis it’s to many people that have a food business so it’s definitely harder to get my name out. But I am striving more and networking better.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So, I am a servsafe certified chef based in Cordova, Tn. I create different meals to fit my customers’ needs. I’m most known for my pasta and seafood sauce. I love to make different pasta ideas. I also make seafood plates, wings, loaded baked potatoes, and sooo much more. I’m definitely proud of how far I’ve come in the matter of almost 10 years since starting my culinary journey.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was the bubbly and happy friend. I enjoyed making others smile and laugh. I was a COGIC kid. Definitely loved attending church. I played different sports all of my school-age years. I enjoyed competition cheer the most. I was known for always making people laugh and having a good time.

Pricing:

  • All pasta bowls start out at $15 and up, the half pans start at $35 and up and full-size pans start off $65 and up. It all depends on what you are ordering and what all comes with the dish.
  • My seafood has different prices because when I say a pound of something that’s what I truly mean. So for instance a pound of crab legs would start off $45 and up and a pound of shrimp would start off at $35 and up.
