Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Allamby.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Zoe. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was 17, I moved to the Miami from my island home, Barbados to pursue my Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Merchandising. While in college as a hobby, with the help of my roommate Ryan I started filming and editing natural hair and makeup videos on YouTube. What started as “fun” progressed into a lucrative career which is lead to work with companies such as Iman Cosmetics, Beautiful Textures and Flawless by Gabrielle Union.
In addition, I was modeling so I was fully immersed in the whole beauty and fashion world. My interest for make up and cosmetics continued to grow and in September 2017, I took the plunge and launched my first product, ZoGlow, a powder skin highlighter. After the success of ZoGlow, I created the actual company CaribBeauty Cosmetics and since then have added liquid lipsticks, glosses, liners and an eyeshadow palette.
While juggling being a digital influencer, model, business owner my most proud title is “Mummy”. I am a mother to a bubbly, fun and active two years old, Nala.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No matter the road you play in life, trials and tribulations are inevitable. I think the hardest one for me within the last two years was when my husband got a job in Philadelphia and we had to uproot our life in Miami and relocate to a new environment. The cultural differences were vast and being separated from friends and family while just becoming a new mother propelled me into a state of depression. The toughest at first was not being able to identify what the problem was so it caused a rift in our marriage and a trickle-down effect to how I managed my business and even being a mother. I am appreciative to my husband Allan for being so supportive and patient with me specifically during that trying time. I see any struggle as a learning opportunity and I think it’s very important to carry that perspective throughout life because that’s how we better ourselves and grow.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about CaribBeauty Cosmetics – what should we know?
My make up company CaribBeauty Cosmetics’ mission is to enhance natural beauty by delivering quality, captivating and universal products. We believe makeup should be empowering, inspiring and inclusive. As I am from Barbados; a Caribbean girl through and through, all of our products are inspired by inspired island elements. Our most popular product is our liquid matte lipstick in the shade “Sorrel” which is a deep red shade much like the sorrel drink. I think CaribBeauty allows women to embrace natural features as we advocate for “enhancing” not covering up like other brands.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Willingness to learn. I think in every avenue I have entered I haven’t let the daunting task of not knowing how to do something stop me. I read, research and ask questions until I figure it out.
