Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaliris Pasztor and Rebeca Lopez.
Zaliris and Rebeca, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Wise Roots Living was born in my kitchen (Zaliris Pasztor) after my Hungarian mother-in-law reminded me of the importance of trusting Nature and its healing powers. As a child, I always saw both of my grandmothers healing others with their homemade remedies and even reiki (back then in my island we didn’t call it like that), so I decided to heal my PMS and PCOS naturally by learning about herbs, barks, and spices and making some changes in my lifestyle.
One of the main cause of cancer, infertility and other reproductive system ailments, caused in both women and men, is due to the excess of toxins/chemicals in our bodies…personal care products are one of the main sources of chemical intake. And unfortunately, American women use approximately 170 chemicals daily in their self-care routine.
As you can imagine, this was more than enough motivation for me to start using 100% natural personal and household products.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing in life is fully smooth. Otherwise, we wouldn’t learn and improve. But considering other businesses struggles, I think we have had a pretty good journey. I spent four years preparing, mastering and trying every single recipe for our first collection. In the beginning, I would only sell to friends, friends of friends, and family what helped make sure that our products truly helped our consumers and were good for every skin type.
If we would have to mention one struggle about the business, I would say it was the creation of the logo and labels. I am a visual person and putting in a logo and label what the brand means to me is very hard, as of today we are still working on our labels designs.
Personally, I would say building your dreamed job while still having another business could be pretty tough; time management and focus are crucial. I am lucky to love both of my jobs but is always hard to try to maintain a steady income while building something that you are so passionate about from scratch.
Please tell us about Wise Roots Living.
I am the founder and co-owner of a 100% natural and holistic skincare line, together with my childhood friend Rebeca Lopez. We are two Puerto Ricans/Dominicans with the intention to educate and help others to create a connection with Mother Earth and its healing powers. We also focus on spreading rituals of self-love and a connection with the divine within us.
At Wise Roots Living we are extremely proud of keeping our word and maintaining our products 100% Natural; unfortunately, the regulations to label a product “Natural” are not as strict as people think, and companies are allowed to use the word “Natural” in their products even if only a small percentage of their ingredients are actually natural.
Every product of ours is handmade and prepared in a high vibrational environment, full of love and good intentions. This can definitely be felt by our Goddesses (we are currently targeting women with our first collection, but we do have a large number of male users as well), we receive daily messages from them, thanking us and expressing the amazingness in the products, its energy, the aromatherapy and how nourished their skin feels and looks.
Our mission, honesty and the fact that everybody in our tribe is a friend of ours is one of our competitive advantages, because everything we do, we do it as a meditation since it truly feeds our hearts and soul. Our little potions are full of magic from Mother Earth and it can be perceived, seen and smelled, as soon as you touch any of our bottles. We are extremely proud of what we do, and as of today, we haven’t had any complaint about the products and its results.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Absolutely nothing, I think the whole process is what has made of this brand, and especially of us, what we are today. I started it by myself as a hobby and Rebeca joined me in perfect timing. We are still taking things slow since we do not want to rush our journey and miss the learning and growing process. This is a mistake often made by entrepreneurs; sometimes we are so hungry for the result that we skip the most important steps…making “mistakes” (that I love to call life’s guidance) and analyzing, adjusting, and ultimately growing from them.
