Yerina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since I was a little baby, I was always looking for the truth and justice. In my early professional days, I developed a great faith that combined with my rational mind, made me what I am today. For many years, I worked for big corporations developing my financial and risk management skills. During that time, I was exposed to technical jobs, and to external business consultants. One day, I realized that there was something missing in the consulting business, there is supposed to be something beyond strategic analysis and quantitative approach. The answer: businesses require a holistic approach incorporating people, their emotions and their awareness into the equation.However, I could find it. Therefore, when I moved to the US from Venezuela and after many years of working for other people, I decided along with my partner in opening Dualis Consulting. Dualis combines rational, emotional and spiritual approach approaches in to business, or what we call now the development of business from within. Here, we are part of the solution, we are part of the implementation forming leaders ready to take their organization to the next level. Moving away from Venezuela back in 2010 it was not an easy path, you had to reinvent yourself, re-accommodate your dreams and expand your vision in order to grow and live your purpose.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an immigrant is a tough choice, opening your own business is a complete challenge, gaining the trust from clients is mandatory and being a woman in a world where most business consultants are men, is not an easy challenge. To overcome those challenges, I have the support of my partner and husband Heradio Luces who has been part of the journey that had, in the beginning, lots ups and downs. However, at the end, we triumphed because during times of struggle, we always lived from the inner self. You cannot hide what you have in your heart, All these obstacles became part of our inspirational story. The key to my success is living with faith, to be Resilient, to be authentic and not to compete with others” just being the best version of myself that I can be”. My serenity must not be confused with weaknesses and finally, you must remember that all your obstacles will also pass. To do that, you have to detach from the struggles and connect with your inner self.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Miami is very hot for startups; now there are more opportunities than ever. According to the Kaufmann Foundation, the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area ranked number one in startups activity in the US, even ahead of cities like Los Angeles and San Diego. We recommend our city for new startups. For our business, the last two years have been great, we ranked among the top fifteen business consultants in Miami for two years in a row and this is thanks to firms than ranks business activities like San Francisco-based Expertise. In that sense, we broke the myth that you must be a specialist to succeed, we have had companies from different countries like Colombia, Venezuela Mexico, and Ecuador besides companies from the US and from different sectors such as Bottled Waters, Piping Gel, Construction, logistics and more. Miami is the capital of South America, but beyond being great for business, the perseverance and passion that define the souls of the entrepreneurs is what makes us similar and allow us to win from within.
