Meet Yas Gonzalez of House of Yas in Sunset Place-South Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yas Gonzalez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Yas. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I studied design and fashion at the Miami University of Art and Design. While still in school, I was able to launch a successful swimwear line that caught the attention of the fashion industry. This initial success is what motivated me to officially start my own line and open the doors to the House of Yas. Behind the doors of my boutique, one can find anything from a dress for brunch, to a red carpet-worthy piece. Hard work and perseverance is what has gotten me to where I am today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My career has not been a smooth road, I have gone through many struggles but one thing I have decided not to ever loose, is my faith and my desire to succeed doing what I love most, Fashion.

Please tell us about House of Yas.
I am the first Cuban-American Fashion Designer to show my pieces at Dubai Fashion week, Vancouver and Paris. I have worked along with many International artists such as; Ricky Martin, Alejandro Sanz, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, among others. My latest collection in the representation of my country-Cuba is a mix of its flavor and colors. I wanted to embellish my pieces with colorful tiles from my great grandmother’s home in Havana, and I did. While creating my own textile designs, I took photographs of the beautiful architecture in Havana and other things that were representative during my early years. I believe the nostalgic heritage and the DNA I leave in every one of my pieces, is what sets me apart from others.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is spending time with my grandmother.
