Today we’d like to introduce you to William Jones II.
William, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story is pretty long and the path did not lead me directly to real estate. I actually started my career in the culinary arts. I graduated Cum Laude from Johnson and Wales University in Virginia. I spent the majority of my adult life as a chef. I’ve been across the country opening restaurants, worked for large hotels, small boutique restaurants and even was a partner in a meal delivery company before it was the cool thing to do. My last real job in the culinary field was at Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak in Aventura. I left that job because my now wife gave birth to our oldest son and after spending a few months as a stay at home mom, she was ready to go back to work. I decided to leave the industry and stay at home to raise our son. After some time staying at home, my wife who was doing loan modifications at the time, wanted me to get in the business. So she taught me how to do loan mods and I eventually got a gig doing them from home. Fast forward. Since that intro into loan mods, I have worked for a few loan mod shops, got my real estate license and worked for a large real estate investment group in South Florida, which lead me to open my own real estate brokerage, rehab company and now a mortgage processing company. Through it all, I’ve learned that I love the art of the deal, making a complex taking situation and making it seem simple and effortless.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Owning a business is never a smooth road. I’ve had challenges with staff, start-up capital, consistency, work-family life balance and probably a dozen other things every business owner has gone through. I think the biggest lesson learned is hiring the right person can elevate your business exponentially & hiring the wrong people can be devastating to your operation, culture & productivity. We have a small team now that is extremely loyal and are perfect culture fits to what we believe in as a company and as people.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of my city. Raising multi-cultural kids in a diverse community is very important to my wife and I. What I like least is that it’s very hard to form real relationships that are mutually beneficial. I’ve encountered a lot of people that only want to take and look for what you can do for them at that particular moment. They don’t look at the long term benefits of forming a relationship and forging lifelong bonds.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are currently in the process of opening a Pest Control company to add another layer of services for our clients and potential clients. We are also looking to continue to grow our current companies. Serving our residential clients and purchasing more distressed assets in the hopes of rejuvenating many communities that have been neglected for a while.
