Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendi Espinosa.
Wendi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a full-time nurse, baking cakes was never a thought that crossed my mind until I had my two girls. We watched a youtube video of a lady decorating a cake and I thought, that looks like fun. 3 years later I’m a self-taught cake baker and decorator of custom cakes. It turned into a hobby of making my girls their very own birthday cakes to now a passion for creating cakes for special occasions for my clientele.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was a lot of hands-on learning and YouTube videos. I’ve learned from many mistakes in the beginning. The road to custom cakes is always a learning experience.
Wendi’s Cake Creations – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a perfectionist. I never want to rush the process and have a cake not be what the client expected or wanted. I always want to exceed their expectations. The kid’s smiles are worth it when they see their birthday cakes. I mainly focus on birthday cakes. Maybe one day I’ll focus more on wedding cakes.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is when the customer is happy with what they received from you. It’s when you see the smile on the child’s face when they see their cake for the first time. Success is when you get pictures from your customers in the days after their party and he sees how the children’s face lights up. Makes me feel proud that I played some part in a child’s happiness, even if a small part.
