Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Jacques.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I was very fortunate to have an athletic ability which lead me to opportunities that helped instill a good work ethic into anything I do. Eventually, I made it to a Division 1 school to play college football on an athletic scholarship. Unfortunately, due to constantly battling injuries throughout my senior year, my dream of pursuing a professional career in football was cut short. Being in love with sports and spending so much time in the weight room since a young age, I naturally gravitated towards the gym any chance I could get, which lead me to being hired with a small strength & conditioning company.
After about 6-8 months of working with the company, the owner really took me under her wing. It was also within that same time frame that I came to terms with the fact that playing football was no longer the route I would follow and that I should go ahead and start my career. I suppose it was all just perfect timing, because the owner closed her company and sold me all the equipment. I was ready to take the next step and start my own company. I originally started running my program out of a tiny space at a place that used to be called Hitters Hangout. In short time, I was in need of a space upgrade and that’s when I ended up where I am today.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, something worth having never comes easy. There was a lot of hard work and dedication put into the development of Victory PROformance. For example, because I was young and didn’t have real world experience, learning how to budget time and money was one of the hardest challenges I had to face. In order to cut costs, I ended up doing everything by myself with the help of two other people. I would capitalize on any opportunities to save. Expenses such as construction, painting, laying down new pavement, organizing, and remodeling were all cut down because they were done by me with the help of friends and family. While a lot of hard work, sweat, and frustration were experienced, in the end it gave my gym an extra sense of TLC and a feeling of home.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I believe our city is a good place for my business because Miami is a diverse, metropolitan area with a lot of people concerned on their image. Due to Miami’s tropical weather it is very easy for people to stay fit and active year-round. The only con about having a business like mine in Miami is the competition. If someone was just starting out I would definitely recommend them to start out in our city. Miami is very devoted to supporting small business.
