Today we’d like to introduce you to Trista Evans.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hooker Electric started about 7 years ago in our storage shed. Tom, my husband/ inventor decided he wanted to make his own electric reel. So he purchased a mill/lathe and begin the process. About six months later, he had a working prototype. Soon after, his friends requested one and so on…. I decided we should take this reel and start a company, so I moved my family down to Florida to help and with all of the support of our fishing friends, Hooker Electric was born.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t been smooth. It has been a FAST road …. Time has flown by… We have had some growing pains/ prototyping, and trying to stay ahead of the fishing curb is always a struggle. There are so many great ideas out there, we are always thinking of something different.
Hooker Electric Inc – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Innovation leads our company. Along with motivation and determination. We are constantly trying to think outside of the box. We like to create things that make sense and help the process. When a customer calls in and asks if this project would be possible. We always respond with, anything is possible…..We specialize in custom projects. Not only in fishing projects, but our specialized reels have been a part of A LOT of environmental studies. We make a large winch that allows you to deploy sensors throughout the ocean, checking pollution levels, salinity levels, ect…which is one project that we are especially proud of.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I would define success by never giving up on something you believe in. As long as the time is there, you should never give up on anything, because the outcome will be successful as long as you can try. We are always looking out for a project that’s a challenge. If something fails right away, that just gives you one option of how NOT to do it. So challenges are something we look for, to overcome and succeed.
