Today we’d like to introduce you to RaiJean Neloms.
RaiJean, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hey! So, I’m really bad at interviews and I hope that’s relatable to your readers. I’m 23 years old. I was born here in Miami more specifically in Liberty City. I trained in modern and ballet dance from the age of six. I started modeling pretty recently after leaving the professional dance world.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I think anything that has to do with being in your 20s and associated with the entertainment business, is quite rocky. Some of the main struggles have been mental health, money, support, and rejection. My advice to any young woman in her 20s is to unapologetically go after anything you want. I think we’re taught as women is to wait. Wait for the right moment, the right man, your chance to speak. Your chance is now. You have to move forward now. Have an amazing emotional support system and be the best person you can be. You can do anything you want.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My work? My work has been working with amazing people in my life. I just recently did a commercial ad with Deezers a music streaming company and sometimes I work with Zumba fitness for their line. My model debut was walking in the Walk Fashion Show that tours the country. Also, as a dancer, I trained with amazing people such as Peter London and Twyla Tharp for a summer in New York. What sets me apart from others is that I know what I have to offer. And what I have to offer is limitless. I am very versatile and creative. I have so much to show the world and I won’t wait for a second longer to show them.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think every opportunity is well positioned for women. In my opinion, that’s not the question we should be asking ourselves. The real question is, are we as women ready to break out of the mold society has built us? Are we ready to face the ridicule and backlash we receive for even daring to do such a thing? We can do and be anything. Particular is subjective. Subjectivity is formed from old teachings.
