Today we’d like to introduce you to Oxana Niki.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Oxana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I gave birth to my baby girl I was looking for a job that would give me the freedom of working at home and expressing myself in a creative way. I started my blog www.TheMommyCouture.com and began to curate my Instagram feed to tell the story, to share the colorful scheme of my photos to brighten up the mood of others. Brands began noticing me and contacting with their offers of collaboration and this keeps me growing to this day.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Its never a smooth road (haha). People have this perception that being an Influencer/Blogger is the easiest job where you just take photos of yourself and make lots of money. It’s a constant struggle with negotiating with brands; planning out the photo idea, location and wardrobe; shooting for hours and then editing for hours. My advice for other girls that are starting out this journey is- don’t ever do it for the money, only do it if you REALLY love doing this. Since the money will not come right away and when they do they might not be enough to pay your rent for the first couple of years and you need commit to posting EVERY DAY so it can be stressful. When you really love creating images, expressing yourself in an art of photography and enjoy it as if it were your hobby, then this is for you 🙂
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I post and write mostly about Fashion, Lifestyle and Travel. I think the aesthetic of my Instagram feed is what gets the attention the most because I love to express myself in color. Being a mommy I am also known for having the mommy and me matching moments with my daughter and I think that is very relatable for other people.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
In this line of work females are definitely dominating as there are a lot more women influencers than men. That helps to eliminate some barriers but also creates the competitiveness between the ladies. I feel that the biggest barrier to your own leadership is copying other’s work and not supporting other females. Only when you start working as a community with other female influencers and showing YOU through your work then with consistent work you will succeed.
