Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikita Chugani.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nikita. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After having 2 kids, I became addicted to/obsessed with fitness. I loved running, playing tennis, spinning and lifting weights. But something was missing. One day, I worked out with a personal trainer who had just become involved with pilates and when she taught me the basic principles of Pilates, there was no turning back. I realized how tight my muscles had become with all the training and how important it was to counter that with pilates. I started to read and learn everything I could about Pilates and about Joseph Pilates, the founder of this amazing system. I certified to become a Pilates Instructor in 2001 and have been teaching group classes and privates ever since. The benefits of Pilates are endless – most importantly, core strength, alignment, improved posture, and flexibility. This makes the body a well-tuned machine, capable of performing other forms of exercise more effectively and preventing hip, knee, joint and back pain. I was living in the Caribbean at the time, on a small island called Curacao and I opened a gym and spa where I was teaching pilates.
In 2010, I sold the business and moved to Miami and have been teaching pilates here. There is no better reward than seeing the results of my work – the happiness in my clients when they see their bodies change, their pain diminished and their lifestyle improved. Pilates is not my job – it’s my passion!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business is never easy. The service industry is particularly challenging. There are always obstacles but the secret is to be true to your art. I stand by the professionalism and a strong sense of ethics. Always make sure that the people you hire are the best – they represent your business, and in turn, represent you. They must have the appropriate qualifications – no cutting corners there.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Pilates With Nikita LLC – what should we know?
I am a Pilates instructor. My particular forte is correct form and posture. I am known to not let clients ‘fudge’ in their Pilates sessions. They say I have ‘eyes in the back of my head’. Sometimes, a tiny adjustment will make all the difference in whether they are getting the desired benefit of the exercise they are performing.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Set goals for your business and strive to achieve them. Love what you do and practice what you preach.
