Meet Trailblazer Loretta Jeanty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Loretta Jeanty.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been into style, fashion, and beauty. When the social media era started blossoming, I started to post more looks of my style on Instagram and Facebook, and a lot of people started suggesting I start a fashion blog. I didn’t really know what that meant, but I looked into it and launched my blog on September 6, 2013. This allowed me to combine my love for writing and fashion all in one place. As I began to edit my pictures, I noticed that my makeup could be a lot better. So, I started watching a lot of makeup tutorials and buying products to achieve the look I wanted. Before I knew it, I completely fell in love with makeup and people were constantly asking me for tips or to do their makeup for an event.

Although blogging has kind of taken a backseat to makeup, I still have a love for both. As I work on revamping my blog, I create a lot of makeup looks on social media as a brand influencer. This is really the beginning of my story, and it’s very far from being over.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Putting yourself out there always have challenges. For my fashion blog, it became a financial burden, as I was not getting sent free clothes from companies. I had to style what was in my closet and buy new things that were trending at that moment. And finding someone to take my pictures all of the time became a struggle also. Because I could not afford a photographer to take my pictures, I had to rely on family and friends. They helped as much as a possible but people’s schedule changed and it got more difficult with time.

When I started focusing on makeup more, the challenges became internal. I constantly doubted my skills and didn’t think I had anything new to offer. It really took a long time for me to finally feel comfortable putting myself out there and being ok with not being perfect.

My advice would be to trust and believe in yourself. Work with what you have and be honest to your followers about your journey and they will connect to that. Don’t compare yourself with others that are much further along than you. Most people only talk about their successes and not their failures. Comparison is never ending trap! Don’t fall for it. Work hard, be true to who you are, and set a clear goal and have a vision of where you want to eventually be.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a fashion and makeup enthusiast. I specialize in styling and doing makeup. What I love most about styling and makeup is teaching others tips and tricks that I have learned along the way. What sets me apart from others as an influencer is that I have a true passion for what I do. This is so different than my professional track, but my passion for this is undeniable. Most people are only willing to do what they get paid to do, which I understand because that is a way of life. But my purpose in life is much bigger than my day job. God didn’t put this gift on the inside of me to let it die. I am continually evolving in my craft, and I am purposed to get to where God wants me to be as an influencer and creator.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Women do face a lot of challenges, and because of the challenges, I believe women are positioning themselves for the opportunities we deserve. There are so many more business owners, and CEO’s and politicians and so on that are women than there were in the past. Unfortunately, there are people who believe the mere fact that someone is a woman makes them unqualified, but I’m thankful for women like Oprah, Michelle Obama and others who allow me to see that women can be great and create their own opportunities.
