Meet Trailblazer Jennifer Lauren

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lauren.

Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After attending Columbia College in Chicago, IL, I worked as a Fashion Stylist independently and then with an agency for a number of years before turning my attention to makeup artistry. I was fortunate enough to receive advice and training from established makeup artists within the industry who were very encouraging about my new career direction. After taking their advice, I started working for MAC Cosmetics, their artists were very fundamental in my earlier training that still is reflected in my work today, shortly after I freelanced for a few years and started my owner makeup service company before moving to Miami Beach, FL where I received my Aesthetics Licences and additional training on skin care and lash extensions.

Today, I run my own company, Visage Networks, we are dedicated to beauty services (makeup applications, lash extensions, lash lifting, facials, in-home spray tan) and beauty education for all of my clients as well as my online followers. Visage Networks is an online platform that is available to the public, it is accessible to anyone that wants to know about current trending products or application as well as inside beauty secrets that are not known to the public.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This journey has absolutely been littered with speed bumps and obstacles, each one more challenging than the next. Every struggle has a lesson, as cliche as that might be, and the ones that I did not learn from I found myself repeating.

The advice I would give young women is to never take no for an answer, intern as much as possible, continue to learn, and always strive to go further.

We’d love to hear more about Visage Networks.
I am a Makeup Artist, Lash Stylist, Licensed Aesthetics and Skin Care, Expert.

As a service provider, I am very proud of the work I do and how it affects my clients. I love nothing more than to give my clients the ability to showcase the best versions of themselves, if you know you look good externally you feel more content internally.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I’m very fortunate that my industry is dominated by strong, intelligent woman. The biggest barriers today in female leadership within my industry I’ve noticed is ego with a woman to woman relationships. This industry can be catty and vicious, but there are quality people who do encourage growth and learning opportunity at every turn. Its hard to navigate your way through fickle environments but there is always an opportunity to those who strive for more. Stay open and level-headed, recognize mentors and be sure to utilize them as much as possible and remember to always pay it forward.

I found this article inspiring! With hard work, a positive attitude, and giving back, is the recipe for success. Hopefully this will inspire others to go after their passions!
