Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Victoria Perez.
Ana Victoria, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My life has given many turns in regards to my blog and personal business. About two years ago, I decided I wanted to compete at an NPC Bikini Competition. I was already very much into fitness, so this was the natural next step for me. I developed so much knowledge about fitness and nutrition that I decided I wanted to share it. This is when I started my Fitness Instagram Account. Back then, it was all fitness related, since it was a really big part of my life at the time. I trained, I competed, and actually won! I thought I wanted to go on and keep competing and sharing everything through my page.
The next year, my life was completely different. I had the opportunity to travel a lot. Nationally and internationally. And even though fitness was still part of my life, it wasn’t one of my huge priorities anymore. I felt a little ashamed at first. I had started this page to inspire people to be fit and I was kinda giving a bad example. This was until I realized that fitness might be different for everyone and that you do not have to be fitness 100% of the time to be ‘fit’ or to simply feel great with your body and who you are. After realizing that, I decided I was going to change my page to be a Lifestyle Blog, where I show girls that they can do EVERYTHING: travel, fashion, work, social, and still have a balance with health and fitness. All while being happy and doing things they enjoy and love. This is how my coaching business was born. I want to teach girls to have a fitness lifestyle, and to understand they don’t have to do extreme diets or hours of exercise to be where they want to be physically. Instagram is my main channel to promote my programs.
The next year, I opened up an actual blog, where I share more in-depth tips, product reviews, travel blogs, etc. My goal is always to inspire all girls to get out there and be who they want to be without trying to fit a mold. Having a blog naturally kinda became a way to create content for brands, and this is something I fell in love with. I taught myself a lot of what needs to be done to have a digital presence, and I wanted to use this knowledge in a more professional way. Therefore, I decided to open up a marketing boutique with my boyfriend, who is also kinda like my social media manager. I decided to call it PRESENCE, which is what we all look for in this social media world. We use this boutique to offer packages to brands and local business that wish to enhance their digital presence through improved and professional content, influencer marketing, email marketing, and much more. We are still learning along the way, but it is up to a good start!
I am excited for 2019 and all the new goals I have and the ones that will come as I go. I am determined to make it my best year so far and to be able to fully dedicate to my blog and businesses.
Has it been a smooth road?
I believe nothing worth having will be a smooth road. If it was, everyone would be able to get it. I think the biggest struggle with wanting to make it in the social media world and having your own business is TIME. Especially, if you have a full-time job and are trying to make it as a side hustle. Sometimes, you will feel like there are not enough hours or days to do all the things you want to do. And I have had to understand that that is okay. As long as you are trying your best and doing SOMETHING every day that gets you closer to your goal, the results will come. And you should be proud of yourself and any step you take in the right direction, no matter how small it is.
So, my first advice to young women starting their journey is to be patient, consistent, and engaged. Even the days you feel like nothing is right, that nobody is watching, keep doing what you love. Show up every day, and engage with whoever decides to reach out. Or even so, reach out to people yourself, ask them what they need/want and tailor your content. And just know that nothing will come overnight. Again, if it did, everyone would have it!
Another advice would be to not be afraid to ask for advice and help. I know sometimes we feel like everyone can figure it out by themselves. But trust me, no one does. Everyone had to start somewhere, so network with people who are like-minded and do not be afraid to use them as mentors. This will get you to your goal much faster.
We’d love to hear more about Lifestyle Blog, Content Creation, & Coaching Business.
As I mentioned before in my story, I do a little bit of everything. For 2019, I want to focus a lot on my content creation business. It is easy to be a blogger and expect brands to just reach out to you when you get to a certain number of followers, but I want something more. This is how I plan to set myself apart. I wanted something that would create a deeper and longer relationship with brands and local businesses. So, rather than offer them one post on my page, I want to offer them services to improve THEIR social media and digital presence. I may not be so well-known for those services now but like I said, that will be my goal for 2019 and I hope I can come back next year and share some of my success stories. 🙂
And as always, I will continue sharing my lifestyle and fitness tips, along with offering coaching services, in limited spots, to those who are interested in working with me. There is something about helping other girls reach their goals that I can’t let go. Even if I have a thousand other businesses.
I would have to say I am proud of how I have become a risk-taker, and I am not afraid to take chances and new opportunities. The old me would have taken months or years to open up about things like this or to even start them. We live in a world where we only want to share the successes after they happened, but I am happy to share some of the things I am hustling with at the moment, that I would hope will become a success in the future.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I believe as a female, we are still automatically doubted. But I also think we cannot blame men or the ‘society.’ This is something that we grew up with and other generations actually let it happen. So, it is our job to prove that we are as capable as any other gender/human being to achieve whatever we want.
For that, we need to be educated and talk with ownership. I would say learn everything there is to learn about your industry before you try to make an impression. Read a lot. What is trending right now in your industry? The second you doubt yourself in front of someone, that is when people will start doubting your capabilities, and could somehow turn into a ‘because you are a woman.’
So, like I always say, the barriers will be there only if you let them.
