Meet Tiana Henry of Tresses in Vogue in Lauderhill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiana Henry.

Tiana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m the owner of Tresses in Vogue. I initially had plans to be in the medical field but that clearly took a turn on its own! I started Cosmetology school February 2014 and completed my studies a year later. I then assisted an established stylist for about seven months and became an independent stylist from thereon. I’ve been in business as owner of Tresses in Vogue for the past five years and wouldn’t have it any other way! I provide hair care services and specialize in cutting services, known as Pixie cuts. I provide my services out of D-Image, where I work alongside fellow barbers and serve as the barbering/stylist of the shop. Outside of the shop, I have serviced weddings, photoshoots and private events!

As a community event aside from my daytime career, I became founder of Conscious Minds hosted by Hazels Tea Nook, an entity which I also own. This event aids towards mental health awareness. So far, I’ve hosted two events that included live performances from local artists, upcoming artist and invited black-owned local businesses to have vendor tables so that our community can see new faces! I was able to share my person mental health journey so that others may know they are not alone! I pride myself in going to therapy and encourage others to do so with my platform. It’s a small beginning with hopes of becoming widely effective one day so that we all know that we, too, count! I look forward to my journey ahead whether it be hair or through my platform to make a difference in someone’s life and uplift them through my passion!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road is never easy, but that’s the beauty in it. I wouldn’t change a thing. I have had a few bumps and bruises as well as lessons. This pandemic for sure was my major one but honestly with my faith, I floated through it! I think every success has a story of trial and tribulations but that’s what makes it all worth it!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business, Tresses in Vogue strives to create an experience for each individual that sits in my chair. I specialize in pixie cuts as well as hair care education. From the atmosphere to my paying attention to every need and concerns of my clients, is what is important to me. I do my best to make every visit one to remember. I believe my professionalism, connections to each client and making sure everyone is satisfied before leaving our session is what sets me apart. It’s not about the money for me. That’s a bonus but my client’s happiness is what makes my day, at the end, feel accomplished.

What were you like growing up?
I was extremely sassy! I was known for my bad attitude. Funny right being that I’m in a service-based career?! On the other hand, I was very helpful in every way possible! I volunteered a lot of my childhood to community projects and church events as well as friends and family! I was always willing to be apart of something if I knew I could be apart of making their vision even better! I was involved in a few activities in church and in the Boys and Girls club, I had a pretty active life as a young girl. I loved painting, sculpting, dancing, cheering, and most favorites was singing which I still do now! In all of those activities, I did compete in competitions.
