Today we’d like to introduce you to Tami Fellerman and Andrea Ferreira.
Tami and Andrea, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started Halo as a way to become independent, and take our careers to the next level. Working for someone else, and giving them 50% of what we made was just not working for us anymore. It’s been a scary, wonderful ride! We are now able to provide our clients with the atmosphere and service standards that we think they deserve, and the feedback has been extremely positive. Clients love the intimate, relaxing vibe we have cultivated at Halo. Our goal is to make each person feel better than when they walked in.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it’s been a smooth road. There are always minor bumps here and there. Our most famous glitch is when the computer decides it’s taking the day off. The first time it happened, we thought we’d lose our minds… now, we just laugh.
What’s great about our situation is that we’re like family with our clients, so any issues that may come up, they are always supportive. Hurricane closings, family emergencies, whatever comes up, they understand. The bumps we’ve experienced have made us stronger, as a business, as partners, and as friends.
Tell us more about your business.
Halo Hair Studio is a suite salon in the Salonz Beauty & Spa Suites at The Fountains Plaza in Plantation Florida. We are an intimate, upscale studio providing all types of hair services for women men and children.
I would say the service and atmosphere we provide to our clients is what sets us apart. They are more than clients to us, so there’s a family vibe at Halo. They’ve gone through huge life changes with us… ours and theirs. It’s a beautiful situation.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Communication and compassion. Communication is essential in our business to achieve what the client wants. We do thorough consultations with our clients, utilizing pictures and swatches to make sure that we’re on the same page.
Compassion is a must in this industry. People are coming to us and allowing us in their personal space, and sometimes at the most vulnerable times in their lives. We’re not just “doing hair” behind those chairs. We’re involved in people’s lives. They come to us with illness, divorce, loss of family, etc. and we’re the ones they vent to.
