Today we’d like to introduce you to Takiyah Williams.
Takiyah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
K’s Kreative Designs was founded in October of 2017! The “K” stems from my nickname “Kiyah”.
As a little girl, I’ve always had a passion for designing, decorating, and creating just about anything! I decorated parties, baby showers, weddings, designed letters for college dorm rooms, etc. but it wasn’t until I was asked to design my very first logo and I agreed to do it. After designing the logo and seeing it come into fruition, is when I realized I was going down the correct path. Although I was excited, I didn’t know that I’d have a successful business right before my eyes. I was in college at the time at Savannah State University in Savannah, GA and working at Chuck E. Cheese, my first and only job! However, I knew that my purpose was bigger than that!
Many people have asked me how did I get started and I don’t have a clear answer, I can only say what God has for you, it is for you. Reason being, my business kind of fell into my hands but what I did with it was entirely up to me. I’m glad I chose to go all the way!
I always remind myself and others to take your talents and MAXIMIZE it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course not! Every business has its struggles even the most successful ones. Some of my struggles were learning how to deal with customers, time management, and making sure I do not get burnt out along the way!
Customers are a very important factor in a business and learning to effectively work with them can be a struggle! Having a positive attitude as a business owner is the key to a successful business. I’ve handled and managed disputes for unnecessary reasons, rude comments, negative feedback, and so many more issues that will make you want to give up! The catch is to take your losses as motivation, see what went wrong, learn from it, and do better the next time!
Time management is super important as a designer. I provide my clients with a turnaround time or time frame in which they will receive their designs and if I’m delayed, I have to be sure to notify them. Because of this time frame, I have to work accordingly and efficiently in order to meet deadlines.
Making sure I do not become burnt out is crucial. As a designer, if your mind isn’t clear or if you’re feeling tired/sluggish, it will cause a creative block making it extremely difficult to design. If I don’t feel my best, I won’t produce my best work. Over the three years I’ve been in business working from home, I’ve learned that it is essential to take breaks, drink plenty of water, get enough sleep, eat, and also throw in things like slight exercise or even getting out of the house because the outside world can inspire you. There are times when I’d get so caught up in work that I would forget to eat and/or sit in front of the computer for long periods of hours without stretching or walking, not realizing I was burning myself out slowly but surely.

K’s Kreative Designs is a graphic design company specializing in designing branding and marketing materials such as logos, websites, business cards, flyers, branding identity suites, and much more!
As a company, I am most proud of the many bumps and bruises that I’ve overcome and the growth and expansion of K’s Kreative.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
While wealth is apart of being successful, it isn’t the only component that makes up success. Success is when you are living out your purpose while having a positive impact on the lives of others. Accomplishing goals that you’ve set out and doing it with integrity and confidence. As we like to say in today’s world, “staying down until you come up”. When you have the mindset of “I will do it” and “I can do it” you’re on your way to starting your success journey.
