Meet Suzanne Boyd of What Your Friends Won’t Tell You

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Boyd.

Suzanne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been in the local news business for more than 20 years. I worked in Sarasota right out of college at a 24-hour news station then got a job at CBS12 in West Palm Beach in 1998 and have been there ever since. I currently anchor the morning news, 9 am and noon newscasts. Lately, the mass shootings have been getting to me and I decided I wanted to start putting out good content that helps people. So a psychotherapist friend of mine, Shannon Thompson Jones and I started “What Your Friends Won’t Tell You” where we talk about life’s challenges and how to deal with them. We shoot the videos on my iPhone with a little tripod and selfie light in my living room and upload them to Facebook, YouTube and our website www.wyfwty.com. We have been surprised by the huge response we are getting from people who say the videos are really helping them through grief or loss or divorce or a problem with their children. We will tackle any issue. Our motto is: Be kind. Be brave. Be authentic.

Has it been a smooth road?
The toughest part was just starting. So many times – we think we need to have a full plan in place before we can start working on a dream. But I say – just start! You’ll figure it out the rest of the way. Shannon and I talked about it endlessly for about a year and a half. We started out with a podcast. But I’m used to being on camera and really connecting with people through video so we decided that video was our main medium. We are now turning the audio from our episodes into podcasts.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with What Your Friends Won’t Tell You – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in helping others through our videos. We want to put out good content that gives people the tools to deal with life’s challenges. One woman wrote to us to tell us our videos helped her change her thinking and that has improved her life and her marriage. It’s those kinds of comments that let us know we are on the right track. Our videos are different because we don’t work off a script or have any fancy production. It’s just Shannon and me sitting down in front of a phone – recording ourselves talking about a particular topic. We don’t rehearse. It’s raw and it’s real.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that South Florida is so diverse and has so much to offer. You can’t beat the weather. I grew up in North Florida, so it’s very different – there are hills and cow pastures and small towns. I miss that small town feel where people wave to you when you pass them driving down the road, but I wouldn’t leave South Florida for anything.
