Meet Susi Romagosa of Susi Licious in Allapattah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susi Romagosa.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hi, I’m Susi. I am a proud Cuban-American, Miami native, a self-taught baker, and founder of SusiLicious Bakeshop. I only bake my favorite treats I’ve been baking and sharing my entire life. My family approved recipes are unapologetically sugarful, butterful, and glutenful.

SusiLicious is known for our Chocolate Chip Cookies, Merenguitos, and Banana Bread. Customers often cannot describe our Chocolate Chip Cookies without using a naughty adjective. Our Banana Chocolate Chunk Bread is a fan favorite. One of the best compliments we often hear is that our Merenguitos taste, “…just like my Abuela made them!” WOW, that’s big and fills my heart.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth, not always. Struggles yes (especially when you’re a one-woman operation wearing every hat, a mom of three and wife). But constantly learning!  The struggles have made me better and make me want to succeed even more. There’ve been times I’ve made mistakes and other times that mistake just happen. So I take a deep breath and repeat what a friend once told me “If it doesn’t kill ya, it’ll make you stronger.” I’m pretty strong!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Susi Licious – what should we know?
The name of my business is Susi Licious and I am the Susi in Susi Licious and business is good!  I’ve worked hard to get to where I am today and can’t wait to see what the future holds.  I started off selling my treats in bazaars and local farmers markets and continue to participate in them today.  They offer a great opportunity for me to keep in touch with my clients and get great feedback.  I also have my product in several coffee shops and retail stores around town.  About a year ago I introduced my product at Milam’s Market and that has been a great experience.  I look forward to branching out to other markets soon.

I recently re-launched my website and I am very pleased with the feedback and opportunities it has opened for me.

What am I most proud of?
Hmm, it’s hard to put into words. I’ve always said I only bake what I like and I what I want to share with the people around me. I want my customers to know that the Susi Licious treat they are taking to their friends and family are exactly what I share with mine. I want them to taste my treats and feel like they were made just for them. Baked in small batches from scratch with the best ingredients I can find. Just wait ‘til you taste ‘em…they’re Susi Licious!.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Family has been very very patient and supportive. Friends have been my cheerleaders. Fellow entrepreneurs have been incredibly supportive and inspiring. It’s always nice to hear your not alone going on this crazy ride. FIU StartUpFood Incubator has been a great source of support and education.
