Meet Susana Betancourt of Susi Makeup / Susana Betancourt MUA in Edgewater

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susana Betancourt.

Susana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a Colombian born makeup artist, hairstylist and formulator.

I worked in Advertising for over six years back in Colombia. I moved to Miami in 2007, where I opened a new path in my life studying Fashion Makeup Artistry and I started working in the fashion and entertainment field as a freelance makeup artist and hair stylist.

I’m always asking myself what I can do to make each moment the best it can be. I enjoy human contact, the adrenaline of the set, the joy of a wedding, traveling and meeting new places and people, seeing new things, that’s what inspires me.

I like working in every kind of production, being part of talented teams and opening my range to new both life and work perspectives.

My job keeps on showing me new ways in which I can develop myself as an artist. Doing brides fills me up with energy. The most special day of your life’s joy it’s contagious and I love being part of that. I love being part of happy stories.

Character development really gears up my creativity, I enjoy it deeply; from research to connecting with the writers, actors and directors; from styling to the full completion of the character.

Many of the amazing experiences I get to live happen inside Susi Makeup Studio, a place where I explore aesthetics, styling and photography and ultimately formulating.

Currently I am developing one of my dearest dreams: my organic, handcrafted beauty line in which my mission is to create awareness of what we put on our body, to treat ourselves with respect by using natural products on our skin that will provide the benefits of Mother Earth and that are handmade with intentions of love.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a smooth and enjoyable road! I love my job and what I’ve built so far in my life!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I can say that what I most like about my business is that it’s never boring! I work in many different areas that every day is different, from doing makeup at my studio, to work on productions, with celebrities, brides, directors, photographers, TV, videos and formulating beauty products, building my brand and the online store.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve been very creative but I loved math when I was at the school, I always wanted to do something related to art. I studied advertising but ended working as an account executive, and I enjoy the accountant side of my personality. Then I found makeup artistry as a form of expression in the art and fashion field again so I think I’ve always had both interests.
