Meet Stephanie Smith of Crates and Cakes in Boca Raton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Smith.

Stephanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. For as long as I can remember, I always had a passion for creating, crafting, and cooking. Growing up, my parents and grandparents threw the best parties. My family’s parties were truly unforgettable. I loved watching them cook and entertain. Seeing people have fun and enjoy food that they cooked and created was an awesome experience to witness.

Once I was in college, I began expanding my cooking skills and started entertaining friends by throwing brunches and dinner parties. I wanted my friends to experience the same things my family’s friends did.

I’ve always loved creating things. I learned how to knit and sew when I was younger and I love crafting and DIY projects. My love for creating things lead me into creating gift baskets. I love giving gifts because I really put a lot of thought into the gift and try to curate a theme or story.

After several years of my friends and colleagues telling me to open my own food truck or bakery, I decided to combine my passions into one business. Currently, this is a business I run on the side with the goal of expanding in the future.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So far, yes. My biggest struggle was getting everything set up. When you go to college for business, there are a lot of things you learn in the real world that you unfortunately won’t learn in a class room.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Crates and Cakes – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Crates and Cakes specializes in cakes, gift boxes, and party favors. I’m mostly known for my cakes. But I make delicious pies and charcuterie platters as well.

I’m most proud that I was able to take my passions and create a business around them. I’m also proud that I’ve been able to manage running a business on my own while working full-time as well.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
No major plans right now, but I would eventually like to have a store front.
