Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Berrios.
Stephanie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a born and raised Miami girl. I grew up in a house with very creative and artistic parents. My mom had perfect penmanship and my dad was a painter. Together they helped me craft all my school projects. As I grew older, my Virgo tendencies kicked in as I tried to emulate my mother’s clean handwriting and dad’s drawing skills. In college is when I truly began to hone in on the art of calligraphy and all the varying styles of hand lettering. I created projects for my home, family and friends. Now, through social media, I’ve been able to share these projects even more and grow this into a side hustle.
I’m a corporate event planner by day and calligrapher by night. A lot of the calligraphy projects I’ve created come out of a need to fill an event decor idea that I have in my head. As the infamous saying goes, “it’s all in the details”. I love creating these details. Every event has a vision and a vibe, and I’d love to help you bring it to life through unique calligraphy pieces.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggles I’ve faced, so far, are internal. For years, I practiced dip pen calligraphy and hand lettering on different mediums. Taking the leap in creating an Instagram account to share my work was the best way to get started. After encouragement from my family and friends, I did it! My website was next, and I can’t wait to add more content to it. At times it can be overwhelming to see all the beautiful content on my feed, but it’s so exciting to see my work sprinkled in on the platform.
Please tell us about Berrios Calligraphy.
I’m a self-taught calligraphy and hand lettering artist. I specialize in custom creations on anything that can be written. These items can include signage, place cards, envelope addressing, name tags, ornaments, and more. I’m known for taking a client’s ideas and refining it into a creative and unique piece for their event or gift.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started sooner! Your first steps are going to be just that, steps. Take one. Build a business. I’m so excited to continue building mine.
