Meet Stephanie Anders of Stephanie Anders Photography in Coral Gables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Anders.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started this business in 2009 when my children were 3 and 5 years old. I was constantly taking photos of my kids and the photographs were getting noticed on social media. I became obsessed with bettering my craft and scoured the internet for professional child photographers, and understanding what it would take to run a photography business focusing on children and families. After taking some workshops and business classes I was able to quit my full time corporate marketing job and do photography full time. I loved newborn photography and realized that to do it right and be able to offer my clients all of the cute props and accessories I would need a studio to house everything. So in 2014 I signed a lease for a studio space in Coral Gables and I couldn’t be happier. Every time I walk into my studio space I feel like I’m home.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was very scary taking the leap from having a full time salaried position with a great company and great benefits, to being on my own and always worrying about booking more clients and earning enough money to survive in Miami. Once I quit my corporate job, I haven’t looked back. It’s so satisfying to work for myself, make my own hours, and make memories for my clients that will last forever. Working for myself has not been easy. I probably put in more hours now, but I do it on my own time and around my family’s schedule.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Stephanie Anders Photography – what should we know?
I am a portrait photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, children and family photography. I shoot both on location and in studio. I love catching the moments between families that are not posed. Sometimes the shots setting up for a pose are better than the actual pose. I have a very peaceful, laid back attitude and I think my clients connect with that and it helps them feel more relaxed at their sessions which translates to beautiful photography. After the sessions, I offer in studio consultations to help my clients choose their photos and pick the products for their home. I think this sets me apart from other photographers who give their clients a disk and walk away and never talk to them again. My clients send me photos of walls in their homes, and I will mock-up wall galleries for them with framed art and canvas options. I also design beautiful albums that become family heirlooms. When they come pick up their products they are so thankful and always love the art they’ve invested in.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My biggest supporter and cheerleader is my husband Matt. Without him, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do. He helps so much with the kids, taking care of the house and cooking. It allows me to shoot on weekends, evenings and at sunrise when I need to. He always encourages me to go out and do my best. I have taken some great workshops along the way and some of these photographers have become mentors like Amy McDaniel from Dewdrops Photography, Beth Jansen from Beth Jansen Photography and Alison Tyler Jones from Alison Tyler Jones Photography. Professional Photographers of America (PPA), has also been a great resource and support system for me.
