Meet Spiro Edgos of The Bin Doctor in Coral Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Spiro Edgos.

The Bin Doctor was started in Coral Springs, Florida by Spiro to protect his family from the harmful bacteria that was inside the trash and recycling bins stored inside their garage. Before The Bin Doctor was born, Spiro and his wife Christy had two young ones in diapers and a Yorkie named Sammy. The contents of the bins produced by this family, combined with the heat of South Florida, it was impossible to walk through the garage and ignore the foul odors coming from the bins.

If the Edgos family had this sort of problem, then there must be more families and homes that have similar issues. What better way to protect your own family and help the neighborhoods and community at large by bringing attention to a growing problem of mold and bacteria-filled bins and providing a service to solve that problem with a 100% eco-friendly process. This was a way not only to start a business with an needed service, but to also give back to the community and to protect the environment as well.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would not say it has been smooth at all. One of the challenges is when machinery has issues and I’m not mechanically inclined, but I am definitely learning that aspect of the work. One of the bigger challenges, however, is whenever there is a new concept that has never been done before in the area, there is a huge hurdle of educating people of WHY residents need to sanitize their trash and recycling bins in the first place. So I don’t compete with another service provider per say, but I compete more with doing nothing. The third challenge is how to advertise and spread the word around to everyone with the little marketing budget that our very small start-up company has… or doesn’t have.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Bin Doctor story. Tell us more about the business.
The Bin Doctor specializes in and it is our mission is to provide a low costing and effective alternative solution that protects the resident’s home, family and the environment from the harmful bacteria, germs and many cases MOLD that grows within their trash and recycling bins.

Many residents have never done it or felt the need to clean their bins. Others that actually have cleaned them by using bleach to kill the bacteria inside their bins. While yes, that will kill the bacteria, but it’s also harming the environment since afterwards, they would have to dump the bleach into the driveway which will harm the law and/or dump it into street which then goes down our public storm drains and therefore, into our lakes and canals causing great harm to our environment.

In addition, the DIY method also uses 75% more water than our eco-friendly, water conserving process. We are very proud to be able to bring a new solution to our area that not only protects our neighbors and the community, but also the environment.

Keep in mind, while there are many landscapers, pool cleaning services, pest control and pressure cleaning companies. The Bin Doctor is the only company that provides trash bin sanitizing service to the residents in our area of North Broward county. So that immediately sets us apart. In addition to our uniqueness, we believe that our customer service and special attention we pay to our customers also separates us from many other companies. We feel strongly in communicating with all our of customers and provide them with consistent updates of when their next service will be and which service is more appropriate for their home. Many times we will recommend a less frequent service for a particular customer as it fits their needs better. At the end of the day, it’s not how much money we make, but what is in the best interest of our customer that’s important.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We moved down to Coral Springs in 2014 from the New York City area to work with IBM. It was there that focus was on my customer base which was spread through out Florida. I had no connection to our new adopted city or to any of the people within our community. Then on Thanksgiving 2016, there was a large lay off that affected many families, including ours. At that point, we had 2 small children, both in diapers and a dog (not in a diaper) and we stored our diaper-full trash bins inside our garage. I guess you could call it luck, but at one point, while enjoying/stressing over my involuntary time off, my wife asked me to do something about our bins that wreaked of hell on a breezy day. But what could do about them that was effective, safe and effortless? That’s when The Bin Doctor was born.
