Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Perazzo.
Sofia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and race in Caracas, Venezuela. Since little I always knew I was into fashion, I liked dressing up, wearing costumes or even dress my friends for parties. I also had photography classes since I was young – my dad wanted me to be a photographer because he said I had a good eye but I wasn’t into the idea at the moment. After the country came down because of political and economic reasons, my family decided to make me leave the country.
Thanks to my grandfather, I started school in Miami in 2015 and got my tittle for Fashion Marketing. During my student life I started assisting for Fashion shows and started doing internships in local showrooms in Miami, one thing took me to another and ended up assisting the biggest stylists in Miami, worked in fashion shows and editorial production and learned from them and the fashion industry. I decided to take a year off from working for other people and work on my personal portfolio taking all the knowledge from my previous mentors and grabbed my camera again after a long time. I started exploring photography, styling and art direction and it felt simply right. I flew for an internship in Mexico City and Tulum with fashion photographer Bex Griffin – learned everything I needed to know for photography and color correction.
Once I came to Miami my name started to come out after I put my portfolio for everyone to see, being persistent and consistent and from there, clients started reaching out to me, until today.
Now, I’ve started exploring different scenarios with my photography, since I love so much the beach I started shooting around it and came up with my “If they ask for nudes” and “treasure hunters” series, which now I’m being called to show them at art exhibits around Miami.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a smooth road because I knew what I liked since I was young. I was lucky enough that my grandfather supported my financially in the US to complete my studies where I’ve found and taking advantage of every opportunity I’ve gotten. I’ve followed my instinct and my family has been my number one supporters.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a fashion and lifestyle photographer, fashion stylist and art director. Because I possess and clean eye for compositions and creating images I also manage social media for some locals in Miami and have become a content creator.
My color correction and way go composing images differentiates me from other photographers in Miami. I’m proud of myself for being very young and have achieved maintaining myself as a freelancer doing what I absolutely love to do most.
