Meet Simone Marsiglia of Gas Station Services Corp (GSS Corp) and MOIL in Edgewater

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Marsiglia.

Simone, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Southern Italy, but my family moved to Northern Italy when I was seven years old. Even though my heritage is in Italy, my heart has been in Miami since I first visited at age 17. I came to the city as a teenager to study for my pilot’s license, and I fell so in love with it that I’ve considered Miami home ever since. I did go back to Italy though and I’m glad that I did because that’s where I met my wife, got married and began to build a family.

In Italy, I shifted my career interest and began working as a sales representative for one of the country’s largest fuel companies. Moving into fuel and liquified petroleum gas brokerage in 2009, I then became the owner and operator of my own Tamoil-branded gas stations in Milan. I later, he opened up my own consulting firm, brokering more than 300 million gallons of unbranded fuel each year!

After some time, I was hungry for a fresh challenge, and the desire to raise my daughter in Miami, I sought out to begin a new venture in 2017 back in the US, back in the city that I fell in love with as a teenager. I brought my family to Miami and founded Gas Stations Services Corp. (GSSC) to supply unbranded gasoline and diesel across Florida. My plans now are to open 20 locations in Florida over the next two years, so I have really shifted my focus from my business in Italy to GSSC’s Miami headquarters so that I can dedicate my energy to this new goal and the team I’ve built here.

 

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was not a smooth road at all! I quickly learned that everything I wanted, I had to fight to get it – especially when you’re starting off. Experience helps, but there is still a beginning where you have to learn. You’re entering this world of sharks and people do not know you yet, so there’s a constant need to build credibility as you struggle to enter certain work environments. And then there is a whole bureaucratic part that you need to mentally prepare for in order to know how to solve it -that was my least favorite part of the learning curve. Unfortunately, not all people believe in you or trust you the same way you might believe in yourself, but that never mattered to me. I know that things are enjoyed more when you have to fight for them, so that’s what I’ve always done to move across those bumpy roads.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Gas Station Services Corp (GSS Corp) and MOIL – what should we know?
My business is a large company focused on the people who make up our brand: those who carry out office duties with me at GSSC and those who dedicate themselves to stores at MOIL. Gas Stations Services Corp. Supplies unbranded gasoline and diesel across Florida. Alongside our in-house consulting department, GSSC also helps to train and manage an expanding network of MOIL-branded gas stations and convenience stores.

MOIL is the line of gas stations that we own and operate through Gas Stations Services Corp. At the heart of the MOIL brand is comfort, quality and convenience. Our internal facilities have been designed in keeping with those values. M-MART at MOIL is the place to make a quick, comfortable stop at a MOIL station. Open 24/7 for snacks, hot and cold drinks, and personal care items. I personally dedicate myself to buying and selling gas, which is what I like most and have always done. What distinguishes me most from others is the direct relationship I have with my collaborators, I am often present and I want them to feel good, I listen to their needs and requests because they are the first to collect customer questions.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife deserves all the credit! She’s my number one cheerleader and she gives me her undying support from moving our family across the globe to adapting to my long work hours (I often only sleep 4 hours a night!), I couldn’t have made it where I am today without her loving presence.

And of course, GSSC wouldn’t be thriving as it is today without the ongoing support of each and every member of the team at our headquarters and in our stores. I’m humbled every day by the hard work and determination of my team to keep our brand growing with as much passion as I have.
