Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanae Thomas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shanae. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started doing makeup about five years ago, as an outlet. I never imagined that my skills would excel how they have, and I would have been offered the opportunities that I have to date. I started doing makeup on a close friend who just enjoyed being dolled up. She would literally have nowhere to go but wanted her makeup done every day. She always told me I had a hidden talent and said I needed to keep pursuing this skill. Taking her advice I started practicing my artistry on others and seriously working on my skills. Understanding that branding was the key to success I realized it was time to turn this hobby into a business. During the rise of my business, I decided that I wanted to relocate from South Florida, I was faced with the fear of having to start over being name was just getting out and my clientele was starting to pick up. But trusting faith and knowing I was blessed with the gift of branding I relocated to Tallahassee. I was determined to succeed and knew that it was going to take dedication and handwork. I started branding and building my new clientele, and networking with other entrepreneurs. I continued to perfect my craft and my brand continued to grow. My work has been featured on BET, Ebony Magazine, KISS products, and Reality Television show Atlanta Housewives. My artistry skills and passion for makeup has landed me awards of WeddingWire Couples choice, averaging about 30 weddings a year. I have gained a consist clientele, and ongoing collaborations and business opportunities, including sold out makeup classes, Slaying with a Twist.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle was learning that your biggest supporters are going to be complete strangers. The ones that you expect to support you will be the ones who don’t.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Most people would think that I would be proud of my celebrity opportunities, however, I’m most proud of how my brand has excelled in the wedding market and knowing that a bride would never forget me, because of how I made her feel on her most special day.
Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
The role of luck has been on my side with how supportive my clients are with referrals and supporting my brand.
