Today we’d like to introduce you to Shae Bynes.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I left a thriving corporate career behind in June 2010 to begin my journey as a full-time entrepreneur. At that time, I was building a real estate investing business in South Florida and also coaching part-time business owners to help them create leveraged and residual income streams that provided them with flexibility to live a life of their own design.
In 2012, God completely interrupted my business and my plans in the most beautiful way. A series of what I can only call “divine encounters” brought me together with a woman in South Carolina named Antonina Geer. Six months later we launched a business called Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur. It started with a simple word we heard from God: “It’s a community, it’s a movement, and it starts with a book.”
Armed with that one instruction, we put our faith into action and started to work on a book about Kingdom entrepreneurship. With the release of the book came the beginning of a global online community and it truly has been one wild, crazy, and amazing adventure ever since.
My partner Antonina transitioned out of the operations of the business in 2015, and I’ve had the honor of continuing the work to inspire, teach, and mentor entrepreneurs to be led by God in business, so they experience His best and have a greater Kingdom impact in the marketplace.
By the grace of God, we’ve reached tens of thousands of Christ-centered entrepreneurs across the world through our resources, including books, courses, podcast, and mentoring programs. In many ways, we’ve only just begun!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road over these past six years has been full of twists and turns. I left a nearly six-figure salary in my corporate career, so you can imagine the number of sacrifices my family made over the years in order for me to do what I know in my heart is a God-given assignment. I definitely experienced some challenges!
From a personal standpoint, we had to sell our personal home to avoid foreclosure, and we moved four times within the next 3 years before we were able to get settled again. We had to say “no” to many things we used to say “yes” to. From a business standpoint, I truly had to learn how to stay both faithful and patient as we were in the early stages. Growth was slow, but it was always steady, and I remained encouraged by the impact that we were having in the lives of business owners around the world. While it was challenging, it was the adventure that my husband and I said yes to. Those challenging 3 years were also filled with many moments where my family saw the miraculous provision of God, and our faith was strengthened in so many ways as a result.
In 2017, as I was writing my tenth book titled Grace Over Grind, God spoke to my heart that things were going to accelerate rapidly after I released the book. He said, “When you release this book, you will be the poster child for the message in it.” True to His word, after the book was released, my business experienced exponential growth and things that were lost over the past few years are quickly being restored. Even during the struggles, I never wanted to quit. I felt like I was exactly where I needed to be, and that I needed to allow things to move in God’s timing and develop perseverance. God is truly faithful, we have no regrets, and I’m so grateful!
Please tell us about Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur.
My company’s mission is to inspire, teach, and mentor entrepreneurs to be led by God in their business, so they can experience His best and have a greater Kingdom impact in the marketplace. It’s more than a business, it truly is a movement. Our vision is to see individuals, families, cities, and industries radically transformed for God’s glory.
What makes me most proud of the work we’re doing is that we truly do model what we teach which is to seek first the Kingdom of God in all that we do, knowing that everything we need will be provided to us. We are profitable and will continue to grow in our profitability, but not because we are profit driven.
It is because we are operating under the principles God has given us — to work by His grace instead of by our own grind, to be radically generous, to collaborate with and show honor toward others, and to reflect God’s heart for people in everything we do.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My family did not have a lot of extra money to take vacations when I was growing up, but I will never forget the time we took a trip to Tampa, Florida and stayed at a fancy hotel. It was so special! There is something magical about getting out of your typical environment and experiencing something you have never seen before.
I have an image of a photo we took while we were there etched in my memory, and it makes me smile whenever I think about it. I know that my father worked hard to make that happen for us. This is why I’m big on giving my daughters new experiences. Things are nice, but experiences are memorable!
