Today we’d like to introduce you to Sergio Castillo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sergio. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Goodlife Miami is the first of the 3 companies I have started in Miami. My family and I were all born in Bolivia, my parents came to the states when I was 4, residing in New Jersey until my second year of high school.
We moved to Miami in 1998, 3 siblings and my parents. I graduated from Coral Park high school and went to MDC for a bit. I dropped out and spent the next 5 years working in customer service/banking, then another 5 as a Network Analyst for a private bank.
I got married at the early age of 21, which quickly resulted in a divorce a year later.
At the same time, my brother was blossoming into an aspiring DJ in Miami and began to DJ at Nocturnal nightclub in Downtown. After the divorce, my brother forced me to come out to his parties and that’s when I stumbled into the career most commonly known as a “promoter”. One night I had a friend joke with me when he saw me partying with a big group of girls, saying “Damn bro, you are living the Good life!” That was in 2006, my brother and I spent the next two years learning and building, then in 2008, Goodlife Miami, LLC was born.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s true what they say about there being beauty in the struggle. I could write a book about all the mistakes, victories and lessons learned along the way. But I have to honestly say, we’ve had some of the most amazing nights of our lives in the beginning.
As we grew, so did the stress, responsibilities, and pressure. There were times we felt like giving up, but 9 years later, we’re still going.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Goodlife Miami – what should we know?
Goodlife Miami is just one of avenues we have created to thrive. It was our first baby, but along the way we have become experts in Graphics, Printing, and Branding.
We have been known to be a party of one of the longest running parties on Saturday night at Club Space. We have been known for starting a running an industry night for local artists to perform their music called “Beats on 11th Street”. We have been known to be a “one-stop shop” for marketing of an event, product, or service.
I am proud of the network and reputation we have built for ourselves over the years. We have had good parties, and even disasters… but we keep it moving, and aim to create a creative approach for every event and/or customer.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would say an important quality I carry is patience. It’s quickly becoming a lost trait, in a world where everyone wants things yesterday. Unfortunately for me, not many people I deal with are born with this trait. But the people that deal with me usually trust me a great deal, and in turn, my patience rubs off on them.
