Meet Sebastian Diaz of Radical Revenge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebastian Diaz.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started freshman year (2015) when I started getting into fashion and experimenting with my style. I got into streetwear at first seeing brands like Stray Rats and Fucking Awesome and then, I dove into Haute couture and avant-garde fashion. Seeing designers like Alexander Mcqueen and Martin Margelia really inspired me to make my own clothes. The start of sophomore year was when I got the name Radical Revenge and the concept of my first ever release. 2017 was a very important year for the brand because it was when I met my right-hand man Matthew Cuervo and I was actually making pieces. At first, it was the world is mine tees those didn’t do so well. But it was part of the process. In early 2018, I was lucky enough to make my first embroidery pieces ‘The Reflexive Hoodies” Those hoodies were the first real release I had made. I was nervous and somewhat terrified to see the result of this release. But this one surprised me, it was the first real release I had made that was a success. I had attended Uckfest in March, I believe it was a really cool event that allowed me to share my work with other creatives and meet people with the same mindset as mine. After a few months, the brand was going up from there. It was very exciting to see my creation grow from when it was nothing. In October, I dropped a 4 piece release the “Retaliation release.” It varied from tees to hats and hoodies. I was fortunate enough to be part of Galaxia an art show that took place in December the Art Basel weekend, I was able to sell most of my pieces some were unreleased some were tees I had already sold. In the start of 2019, I released a 4 piece release called the global release that has been the most recent release. Through trial and error and real-life experiences, I have been able to take my brand to the next level

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To be honest, it hasn’t been a smooth journey especially when you are building something from the ground up without any experience or knowledge. In the beginning, it was very difficult because I had no knowledge of what I was doing, no resources to make what I wanted coming alive. I was very nervous to share my work with others. One of the difficult things would be making the pieces. At first, I didn’t know how screenprint worked I didn’t have an embroidery plug. It was kinda like walking in a forest blindfolded. But I was able to meet the right people, I had the right people by my side and it all occurred at the right time.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
You’ve probably seen my Instagram @Lilgothpapi, whether it’s my fit pics or shoots I’ve styled. I am known for my brand Radical Revenge but I am also a stylist, model and creative director for other brands. Anything fashion related that is my thing, I am known for the visual content I always put out within my work. Every time I do a shoot, whether it’s for my brand or for fun, I always try to incorporate different themes, I always want to do something different with it. Whether it’s the outfits or the scenery or photography style. One of my biggest accomplishments would be my brand itself. I have done this from nothing with the help of a few such as Matthew Cuervo and Jenny Gonzalez. This is my first big project with many more to come I’m just so grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way and the immense support I’ve received.

What’s your outlook for the industry over the next 5-10 years?
In five years, I see myself probably owning another brand or two. Styling artists or Creative Directing big fashion companies. I would probably own a few other businesses maybe open up a restaurant or a store living in New York or France. Just having a positive outcome with my work living life traveling for work still grinding and improving my work as the days go always being a student and having room to learn new things.

In ten years, I would probably be in a more relaxed position. I would probably be more laid back about my work having other people work in my companies but I would still have the majority of control of all my companies. I would see myself in Japan or London with my wifey investing in major companies or starting an organization that invests and teaches younger artists to expand their talents to their fullest potential, giving them opportunities and resources that would be beneficial for them.
