Meet Sayuri Chacon of You & Me Time in Plantation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sayuri Chacon.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all began with two questions.

My business professor asked me, “What painful experience have you gone through? And, are there other people experiencing that pain?

I was frustrated because ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be an entrepreneur, yet I didn’t have a concept or idea for a business. During my sophomore year in college, I had to put together a business plan as the final assignment. While my classmates chose to do their project on a fictional concept, I thought, “If I’m going to spend over 40 hours putting together a business plan, I may as well do it on the actual business concept I would one day start.”

One day after class I walked up to my professor and expressed to him my frustration. I wanted to hurry up and just get an idea. That’s when he told me that the greatest entrepreneurs in history weren’t the ones that were quick to come up with the next App or technology device; they were the ones that found a true need in the marketplace and found a solution to meet that need. Then he asked me the two questions that led me to discover You & Me Time.

When he asked me I was frozen. I didn’t know what to say. I went home and started reflecting…

My parents divorced when I was 8 years old.

I moved 27 times between cities in the Dominican Republic, New York, and Florida.

I was bullied in middle school and cheated on by exboyfriends in high school.

Since I was a little girl I learned to put my feelings aside, to put my shoulders back, and to raise my head up high because I had to be strong for my mom. As I sat in my room, all of those memories that I had been ignoring resurfaced, and for the first time in 12 years I was able to tune into my emotions and process them.

I identified the experience that caused me the deepest pain: my parents’ divorce. And, were there other people experiencing that pain? Yes. Fifty percent of marriages end in divorce.

As a society, we’ve become numb to that statistic. We’ve come to accept it as the new normal, not realizing that behind that number, there are actual lives being affected.

I went from being emotionally detached to my parent’s divorce to allowing myself to feel the ripple effect it had on my life. At that moment I was no longer thinking of coming up with a business idea for my college assignment, but instead, I became obsessed with the thought that I needed to disrupt divorce. I didn’t want kids to go through the pain I went through growing up. I needed to create a solution that would make it easy for couples to stay connected. And not only for couples…a solution that would strengthen the relationship of parents and kids, siblings, and friends.

Suddenly I remembered the words my dad said to me before divorcing my mom, “Relationships are like plants. If you don’t give them the proper care with water, sunlight, and good soil, they will eventually die.”

And that was my AHA moment. My mission became to help people stay connected and help them grow towards their relationship potential.

That’s how You & Me Time was created.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always being a smooth road. When I founded You & Me Time I was 20 years old, single, with no marriage experience and had come from a broken home. I knew I had to seek wisdom from marriage experts in order to gain credibility.

I had the opportunity to sit one-on-one with one of the world’s top marriage experts Dr. Gary Chapman. Dr. Chapman is the New York Best Selling Author of The Five Love languages. The moment he heard about You & Me Time he loved the concept and was willing to give me an endorsement quote to help me strengthen my credibility. Here’s what he stated, “”In today’s fast-paced world, You & Me Time is an excellent way to enhance marriage and family relationships. I highly recommend this unique approach to creating meaningful relationship experiences.”

Please tell us about You & Me Time.
We create relationship experiences to help people pause from work and distractions, and experience a moment that matters.

From anniversaries and weekend escapes, to weekly relationship mile experiences, every moment is created to move our clients closer to their relationship potential.

We turn random date nights into transformational experiences- where every detail is meticulously planned for: the ambiance, the conversations, and the activity. It’s their time, their moment, and their legacy- and we want it to be worth remembering.

Our experiences spark relationship growth and help people avoid being vulnerable to life’s distractions. Marriage is our heartbeat because we are aware that if dad and mom are okay, the kids will be okay.

We strive to push our client’s boundaries and expectations to show them that whether they are a newly-wed couple or an empty-nester, there have so much to learn and experience together.

I’ve created You & Me Time experiences for clients such as the CEO of Chick-fil-A Inc., Dan Cathy, who hired me for his 41st Wedding Anniversary. Dan Cathy became a raving fan of my company and asked me to create similar experiences for other Chick-fil-A franchise owners and spouses. This was a dream come true and truly one of my most proud moments.

The main thing that sets You & Me Time apart is that we are not an event planning business and we are not relationship coaching. We merge both industries and we create experiences which goal is to deepen the relationship. The heart of the You & Me Time is the actual relationship. Every element that we integrate from the ambiance details, the core conversations, and the quality activity, are designed to facilitate growth in the relationship.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly wouldn’t do anything differently because I believe that everything that has happened has led me to where I am today.
