Today we’d like to introduce you to Sayblee Darsale.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 1994 when can to American, I noticed the hair products were not healthy at all. I was looking for clean products and I could not find it at that time, I decided to make my daughter and I hair products as well as other things like skin care and our food based on what I know how to do from Liberia, West Africa.
Coming to America. I had very thick kinky hair. The stylist did not know what to do with it. They relaxed my hair. Within a year I looked at myself in the mirror and said if you don’t stop relaxing your hair you will go bald by 50 years old. I started braiding my hair while in college.
One of my classmates asked me to do her hair. I braided her hair for 10 hours. She paid me $40 and a $10 tip. That led me to beauty school. When I entered beauty school the products were very damaging for human health. I told myself I will develop a safe hair product that is healthy for mankind someday.
I took my ingredients to a manufacturer. They gave me the wrong products and sold my ingredients to a supermarket. I was so hurt leaving my lawyer office, I started crying so hard I told myself I will make my products. They will not win. Hello I am Sayblee. I am the hair and scalp scientist behind the products. I made them with my two hands and my God given brain.
Fast forward in 2011, I invested $247.58 on my first ingredient. I sold the products to my salon clients. I reinvested the money and made $58,000 in the first year and this was the beginning of my Sayblee HairGrowth Products Line business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh, yes! It has not been a smooth road at all. As for my business everything was going as planned until Covid-19 hit and we had to shutdown. From the advise of my mentors I pivoted to online and I lost a lot of money there. I was told to hire marketing people from out of the country on fiverr. I did and it did not go well. I paid marketers and they did not deliver on the promise.
My first goal was to stay focus on my retail store model but when Covid-19 came online was the only option so I moved the products online based on recommendation. Looking back if I had to do it all over I would have waited like my inner voice was telling me to do.
Ever since then my biggest struggle had been funding. No solid capital to infuse into the business for marketing and to hire the right team members. I always thought I have to work hard and fund my business as I sell products and reinvest. This was what I did in the beginning. In other to scale is a whole new strategy. I have a different mindset now. Which is to bring on investors because I realized every successful business use other people money before they made it as big as they are today.

I am most proud of the many before and after results pictures of our customers and clients. Just to mention one of our many clients, she had female partner hair loss for the last 30 years. She came in our office building to the business next door. She saw our sign in the window and decided to come in and tell us that she does not believe our products works. I asked have you use it before?
She said no but she has tried everything and nothing works including going to a Dermatologist that made her feel less than because of her hair loss. I told but you have not try Sayblee products. If you tried us and it does not work you have the right to tell us it does not work. A few weeks later she came in and became a happy client so much so that she bought over $200 worth of products and sent it to her sister in Italy. This makes me proud that we are helping people heal the scalp disorders and growing their hair healthy. She is still a client with a hair that is growing back nicely. She told me how she looks forward to coming for her treatment.

I love Miami. I live here for 31 years already. This sunny state is beautiful every where you go. I moved away for a year and came right back. I do not like the way people drive with anger. I am not sure why they are so angry.
