Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Weir.
The concept behind the salon, created by Weir, is one derived of necessity. As a businesswoman, she made every effort to be well-groomed for her job, but it wasn’t until her teenage daughter started to frequent nail salons and suffered from dry, brittle nails as a result, that Weir took an interest in salons’ beauty product ingredients.
Lotions, nail polishes, scrubs—each seemed to be comprised of harmful chemicals and toxins. Weir sought out salons with natural alternatives, but found these were non-existent in Miami. The lack of organic and healthier options prompted Weir to take matters into her own hands, and GLOSS Nail Bar was born.
GLOSS brings an eco-chic dimension to the traditional nail spa. By taking the luxury of her salon encounters and combining it with green practices, Weir was able to create a balance of healthy and high-end services and décor to the GLOSS experience. Designed by Weir and inspired by a trip to Bali, the 1,345 square foot space’s grey and white tones evoke a soothing Zen vibe. Elements of nature, such a reclaimed wood, are mixed with antique mirrored Buddhas, recycled glass and aluminum. The feel is tranquil, peaceful, earthy and welcoming.
Manicures and pedicure stations are separated by a communal table, where guests are encouraged to sit back and relax while enjoying a glass of bubbly and catching up on their reading or conversations.

At the heart of the salon are its organic and natural offerings, GLOSS Naturals, all of which are created by Weir herself. The product line consists of over 100 different shades of nail lacquers housed in fully recyclable glass bottles to reduce waste. Each season Weir manifests four new shades to add to her collection. To encourage the green lifestyle, customers receive one free nail polish of their choice for every four bottles of GLOSS Naturals polish brought in for recycling. In keeping with the salon’s mission, all products used and sold in the salon are organic, recyclable, non-toxic, vegan and cruelty free. At any of the 12 stations (six for manicures, six for pedicures) find petroleum-free, soy-based polish remover housed in a 100 percent biodegradable bottle in lieu of traditional acetone. The salon’s eco-friendly services include the GLOSS Essential Manicure, a hand treatment complete with organic oils, massaged into your skin, followed by a traditional manicure. The matching GLOSS Essential Pedicure offers a soak in organic sea salt, raw sugar scrub and traditional pedicure services.
With more than 10 manicure and pedicure options on the menu, including the GLOSS Mister for men, there is a decadent organic nail experience just an appointment away. GLOSS even offers manicures and pedicures, dubbed GLOSS Missy, for children under 10. Prices for the services range from $15 (for GLOSS Missy and GLOSS Express) to $60 (for GLOSS Custom, a bespoke pedicure).
In addition to nail services, find facials, like the GLOSS Purity and GLOSS Clarity, as well as Aromatherapy and GLOSS Deep Tissue massages. Brow shaping and lash tinting (with prices ranging from $20 to $35) and waxing (with prices ranging from $20 to $70) are also available at the salon using Nufree, a vegan, soy-based, botanical product.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Unbelievably, because the concept was so new to the Miami area, Gloss Nail Bar was a success from the start.
