Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Di Carlo Valdez.
Sandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I can trace it all back to my mother and her cooking. Food was always a huge part of my childhood because my mother LOVED cooking! Whether it was cooking up whole dinners for the entire family to baking up batches of desserts, she did it all. While that same passion for cooking didn’t rub off on me, the love for food, the art behind it and how it manages to bring people together certainly did. To be quite honest I can’t recall the exact time I started being a “foodie,” I just started taking pictures whenever my husband and myself would go out to eat. These pictures would then end up on my personal social media for friends and family to see, no intention of releasing them to the public at all. That is until one day a close friend of mine suggested I turn this hobby into something more… and here we are today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I haven’t encountered a single bump on the road yet. The community has always been super welcoming, and I really can’t ask for anything more.
Grub ‘n Whereabouts – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The main thing that sets us apart is that we do try to go to places that aren’t flooding social media. The ‘mom and pop’ shops. Businesses that you won’t regularly see or even hear of.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is actually what I’m doing now, which is what I love. Whether it’s Grub ‘n Whereabouts, my nail studio, Chroma Glam, or my most recent venture, Life ‘n Whereabouts, it’s not about what you can get out of any of those things it’s about continuing to do said things with that same love and passion that you started out with.
