Meet Romina Andrea Magorno of Imagine It Media in Miami Shores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Romina Andrea Magorno.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my PR career almost 20 years ago in Los Angeles after having to decide to get out of the Fashion industry which was making me feel drained and unchallenged. I began as an assistant to my PR mentor Diana Baron (DBaron Media) who took a chance on me, and taught me PR fundamentals and giving me hands-on experience from day one. From there, I moved on to do more in the Entertainment and Buzz PR Field and then back to music PR. After 11 years in Los Angeles, I made my way back to Miami in late 2010, where I met my husband and decided to start my own shop a couple of years after that. I started Imagine It Media truly because I wanted to do things my way, not work for the man; I was also expecting and needed to have a healthy balance with work and personal as we were getting the nest ready so to speak. Agency wise, I just wanted to have a say in how I would put together specific strategies and think outside the box.

My clients/Artists range from Urban, EDM to Pop and Indie genres. (Some artists from my roster: Steve Aoki,  Myke Towers, C. Tangana, Cedric Gervais, Ultra Records, Jorge Drexler, Play N Skillz, Reykon, Deorro, Farina.)

Has it been a smooth road?
For me, it has definitely not been a smooth road. PR is a competitive field. I can proudly say that I have run my business honestly and worked hard to get where I am. Nothing has been handed to me. I think one of the challenges has been that due to my not being a fan of industry politics, I have had to work a bit harder to secure business and clients. Luckily for me, a lot of my business comes from referrals and word of mouth.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Imagine It Media story. Tell us more about it.
Imagine It Media is a boutique PR and Marketing Firm with its foundation in Music, Entertainment and Lifestyle. We have handled an extensive range of artists, actors, and personalities. The agency provides and meticulously curates press and media strategies for established artists as well as artists in development. We also specialize in talent wrangling, strategic brand partnerships, and event media management. Our agency is dedicated to developing and executing comprehensive public relations campaigns for clients looking to increase their visibility in both the Latin/U.S. Hispanic and the mainstream media markets.

What sets me apart from other PR firms is that we think outside the box, we like to get our hands and feet wet where other agencies may not want to dive into… I am a firm believer in giving it my all. I work with passion and heart and anyone who knows me will tell you that. What I am most proud of in my agency, is my ability to run a full-service PR and Marketing firm and be a full-time mom. I am vocal to my clients about that and have no problem passing on a project if they have an issue with that. I have delivered successful national campaigns, Latin GRAMMY-winning record releases, product launches, hundreds of red carpets (I am known to run a tight ship on my carpets!), etc. without any issue. I am proud to wear both badges!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The change is upon us… Latin is has taken the lead in the mainstream and this time showing no signs of slowing down. That is clear! A couple of weeks ago, the VMAs had THREE Latin performances. THREE! That’s crazy! but it makes me happy because my niche little market is now doing big things in the US Mainstream space. I see this trend continuing to grow and consumed by the masses. Another trend to point to is also POP music. It is making a comeback as well, having taken a backseat to Urban for the last five years. We are ready to welcome it with open arms!
