Meet Roman Rotges of Oroa in Coral Gables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roman Rotges.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Roman. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After 12 years of residential development in the south of France, I came to Miami with the possibility of expanding the modern Dutch luxury brand Eichholtz. Celebrating 25 years this year, Eichholtz is now a trendsetter in the industry with a large collection of 3,000 items: furniture, lighting and accessories.

Eichholtz is the #1 exhibitor in major trade shows in Europe and also a vendor for Restoration Hardware and Crate and Barrel.

Eichholtz provides elegant designs to the general public, designers and architects and the best hotels.

Has it been a smooth road?
Brick and mortar retail is complicated in the US since we can clearly feel this transition with the online activity. Online retail is a complex science that takes time to understand and get real results.

Real estate markets are slowing down all over the US so it also has an impact on the furniture business.

It also takes time also to find a returning clientele that understands the brand and the difference we offer.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m the owner of the company. Used to be a client of Eichholtz for 8 years before starting to represent the brand in the US.

Eichholtz is famous among the interior designer community. They represent a large part of our clients, but we also handle private clients directly from the showroom in Coral Gables.

We deal with 15 to 20 hotel projects a year also, and local and national developers.

This year we saw our activity expanding in new countries: obviously a lot in South America, Caribbean, Central America but also the Middle East and Europe. Our clients travel a lot and have houses everywhere.

Eichholtz launches hundreds of new designs per year and has 95% of the 3,000 products permanently in stock in the Netherlands.

This enables us to deal with high-end projects, exciting new constructions and luxury hotel groups.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The style of our furniture might not the typical Miami style, which is all white and boring but Miami is one the greatest door to the US and South America. I feel like at home since my family had a house in South Beach since 1991. I speak Spanish since I lived in Venezuela when I was young. Miami is a very welcoming city especially to Latin and European people.

A major improvement would regulate better the real estate market especially the new constructions (condos) to avoid a crisis or slow down.

Pricing:

  • Range from $25 for small accessory to $5K for special pieces.
