Richard, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
What started out as a backyard project a few years back with my father, grew in to a 20,000 sq. ft. outdoor showroom in the heart of Wynwood. Welcome to Bubble City by popupeventsgroup.com; a vacant parcel in the heart of Wynwood filled with Transparent Modular structures for all types of uses (Popup retail, outdoor garden cafe, event, space, social space, sales office, offsite event rental). Bubble City not only showcases what popup events offers, but is a destination where patrons can experience how this unique eye catching and elegant structures can be used. The mission of Popup Events is to create transparent structures that bring the outside in with all the comforts of being inside. Our structures are modular, climate controlled and can be set up quickly on any surface without the use of heavy machinery. Use them on rooftops, in the woods or mountains, in your back yard, on the beach, or on the water. There is even a 70′ Bubble sales office that will open this summer by the FIU university campus. All our structures are designed, engineered and manufactured in house. We also offer permanent installations that will meet hurricane standards but that can be dismantled and moved in a short time frame (under a week). Why be stuck to a location because of the physical structure of your office, shop, restaurant, bar or even home? Take it all with you with our popup structures. The uses and applications are only as limitless as the imagination of our clients. Another unique product is the popupwindwalls (TM) patent pending. These temporary or permanent structures are used to block the unwanted wind at any venue without blocking the views. They install without staking to the ground and are rated for serious wind conditions. Many high-end venues around town (1111 parking garage, Perez museum, Sonesta Beach resort…) have now made these products a part of their sales package. So “THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX AND INSIDE THE BUBBLE”
Has it been a smooth road?
I think any new and innovative product has its share of growing pains. Perhaps the fact that our structures have a variety of applications, the marketing focus can be challenging. The positive is that the products are always embraced in every application they are presented.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Popup Eventsgroup story. Tell us more about the business.
Popup Eventsgroup offers modular transparent structures for temporary or permanent installations. Our acclaimed structure is the 25′ popup Bubble which has been used at celebrity events as well as by major companies like Facebook, Microsoft, Citibank …
What I feel we bring to the table is our expertise in understanding and creating feel good spaces. Our background is founded on our 40 + years in the architecture and construction industry. We understand materials and how to shape them into iconic structures. Forward thinking is our fundamental DNA.
Time allows us to evolve, so should our spaces.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the event industry, I have been told that people are looking for an alternative to the classical tent to enclose their event and I think that the smart tent companies are realizing this and are looking for creative options. This is why part of our product line is designed to be retrofitted to tents to give them a whole new look. Additionally, the fact that our structures, when assembled come together with the roof and side walls and can be configured to any floor plan quickly, is a great saving in time and money for the tent company.
Event planners are always looking for the ultimate WOW effect. We have created 3D mapping on our Bubble, installed them on our water carpets, used them as sound studios, at expos, as billboards… Our structures are sexy, modern, hip and perfect for the WOW effect.
In the retail business, companies may look for a cost-effective way to set up shop to test a market. And relocate if it does not work for them. Our structures allow them to set up shop as a “tent” during their test period and move everything when done or convert their temporary space as a permanent structure. (this is what we did at Bubble City)
Developers who have vacant land and are either waiting for permits or are land banking, can monetize their property with our popup structures.
Many developments, especially in downtown Miami, are building high rises where the pool and other amenities are on the 8th floor or above, the problem is the uncomfortable wind that it creates for its patrons. 2 months ago, I was called by a large developer, because they were having a grand opening and the chairs around the pool area were being blown into the pool. I actually took a reading with my wind meter and I clocked 30 MPH winds. We quickly responded to the crisis with our popup windfalls(TM) patent pending and in an afternoon enclosed the part of their pool area where the wind was coming from and the Party went on as planned.
Glamping is a big trend that seems to only be getting stronger, Glamorous camping, where couples or families can stay outdoor in a luxury tent and get all the amenities of a 5 star hotel. Imagine a popup bubble in the middle of the jungle where you can be a part of the action, yet be completely protected by our structure.
