Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Lawing.
The beginning of her hair career started when she was doing YouTube in college. Not knowing that is was going to lead to a career in the Beauty industry. Rhonda has always been fascinated with hair but her interest was really peaked when she decided to stop relaxing her hair. Rhonda always desired and felt like she had curly hair but was told by her hairstylist at the time that it wasn’t possible. So, Rhonda researched and experimented on herself and discovered that traditional haircare is not how we bring out our best curly texture. Rhonda is one of the first to practice no oils or butters for naturally curly hair despite popular belief. Rhonda has proven and has been making people believers over ten years. Rhonda is proud to have trained other stylists her hydration technique leading them to successful careers. Rhonda’s true mission is to make everyone truly love what they have naturally. If you are going to love something, you must know how to take care of it! Hair is such a big part of whether we realize it or not. The greatest joy Rhonda has is when a client loves their hair and tell her how much she has changed their life by showing them her hydration technique. Spreading self-love is her true passion. ❤❤❤
Has it been a smooth road?
No, not at all. Learning how to conduct business and just learning the world of business was hard. If you are going to own a successful salon or any business you must understand business. I don’t mean just the business of your craft I mean taxes, filing as the right corporation, knowing to pay yourself a paycheck and not just spending your profits and etc. I figured that stuff out along the way. Also, juggling being a good wife and mother. My family has been wonderful I always try to make sure I’m not leaving them out. Knowing who to trust can be hard too. You will meet a lot of people in the beauty world and business world many have been good but some no so good. I just learned to trust my intuition. It doesn’t fail me.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hydra Bar Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
I am proud that I get to make many people love and appreciate what they have naturally… their beautiful naturally curly hair. I love educating. I set my salon up to educate each client about their hair. Hair is a big part of most of our lives. We wear it every day! I love when I get clients who thank me, hug me or just smile at the end of their services when they see their hair. I’m so amazing and humble that client flies in from different place just to get their curls done at Hydra Bar. I also get joy when teaching new stylists my techniques and to see them grow and know that they get the same joy I get from servicing a client who is amazed by curls they didn’t know they had. It’s just a blessing and I am truly grateful.
Tell us about your favorite and least favorites things about our city.
I love Coral Springs! My clients are always asking me to move here and there but I love Coral Springs. I’m originally from North Carolina, Coral Springs has a little of that southern vibe that I grew up on. Plus, it gives my clients a slight scenery change. It’s not anything I would say I dislike about it. I actually like the whole surrounding areas.
