Meet Rebecca Rivero of Gitanillas Dance Studio in Doral

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Rivero.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rebecca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started dancing at a very early age, after my parent’s divorce. My father married the great Venezuelan Flamenco dancer Tatiana Reyna’ and she took me in immediately. I grew under her incredible talent and generosity, which I absorbed to the max. When I was 16 years old, I became the instructor to her three-branched school and later its first dancer and artistic director. At 22 I decided to expand my knowledge and development, training with different great dancers both nationally and internationally. In 2002 I formed the first “Gitanillas Compañía Flamenca” and the first Adolescent Flamenco Dance Company of Venezuela. In 2004, the well-known Flamenco Dancer Siudy Garrido invited me to become part of her company with which I performed for over 3 years. Simultaneously, the also great dancer and entrepreneur Carolina Lizarraga asked me to become part of for her beautiful musical “Venezuela Viva”. With this show, I danced in different countries like: Venezuela, The Netherlands, and the United States. Because of the terrible political and social crisis happening in my country, I decided to move to Miami looking for a new beginning. I started a new career as a Fashion Designer, role that I perform today as well. Once in Miami my great friend, dancer and current partner Hurí Salamanqués suggested we continue here our passion for dancing making possible the birth of GITANILLAS DANCE STUDIO.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Building our name has taken some time and much effort. Gaining people’s trust and positioning our business has been a beautiful but hard work.

Flamenco is not a very common and or well-known discipline here in America, therefore people are sometimes reluctant to try. Fortunately, we have found our place in a large Hispanic community giving us the chance to demonstrate our expertise to everyone.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Gitanillas Dance Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
We are proud to continue the legacy our great mentor taught us: “Share what you know” We had the honor to have Tatiana Reyna, an amazing, very well known and talented Venezuelan dancer as our instructor and director for many years. We absorbed every bit of her generosity, love and passion for the arts and made her mantra our own.

We brought this distinctive and loving teaching method to our studio, paying forward to younger generations by spreading what was learned.

We specialize in Flamenco and Belly Dance, however, we offer also Ballet for little ones and Salsa Casino for all ages and partners.
