Today we’d like to introduce you to Rayana Schmitz.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rayana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started when I was in the fire academy back in 2012. There, I met my business partner, Erika Espino and we started selling refinished and custom built furniture. Many times, I would informally help our clients design their home, which they really appreciated and gave me really good feedback on. I kept hearing from people that I should do it professionally and that stayed in the back of my mind.
In 2014, when I was selling my old house, people walked in and, to my surprise, they kept asking me who was the designer I had worked with. I would tell them it was all me and they started asking if I would work with them even if they didn’t buy the house. I gave them my phone number thinking nothing would come out of it. But, it was quite the opposite. In the meantime, I was eager to learn more and more about interior designing. So, I immersed myself in a learning process to gain the expertise I found necessary.
Today, I’ve worked with over 40 clients, and the business is still growing and Erika takes care of the furniture side of the business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not. When I started, I was still a firefighter, so I had to juggle both careers. One day, I decided that I had to choose either one or else I might go crazy. It was a really difficult decision for me, I loved being a firefighter and I had worked really hard to become one. But, I’m very glad I took the leap. I feel great about where I am right now.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Firefinish Interiors – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I work with clients to create beautiful rooms that are also functional. The idea is to help them get to know themselves to really feel at home in their own houses.
My style is more lived-in luxury. I work a lot with families, so I like to incorporate elements that make the house look cozy, trendy and inviting for them to spend great quality time together. This way I can address the grown-ups need for a nice house, while still making it a living space every member of the family feels good in.
I’m known for rooms that are not traditional, but yet elegant.
I’m really proud of how much I’ve been able to achieve in so little time and I believe that the personal relationship I develop with my clients is what sets me apart. They know they can trust me with their houses and that I’m there to cater to their style.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I intend to expand my company and start working on projects in other parts of the country.
