Meet Ralph Daniel of Swaggercutz in Opa Locka

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ralph Daniel.

Ralph, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started early on in HS my dad brought me a Clipper and told me to cut his hair. I actually thought he was crazy 😩 So many doubted my parent’s judgement about going to school. I had no experience but he trusted me.

A little time after that, I started cutting people from my school Turner Tech, I would even ask my neighbors to give me a chance. People would actually laugh at me like I was crazy. Eventually, they would let me do it. I was charging $3.00 tapes & $5.00 haircuts in front of my parent’s porch. Slowly, I started getting a lot of clients, it was getting out of control, people were waiting for hours just so that I can service them. Customers were even paying more money to skip other clients that’s how bad it was.

A few years later the business was growing rapidly in front of my parent’s house. It forced me to go work in someone’s else SHOP to service my clients, it wasn’t what I wanted. It put me in a hard place because I was comfortable in my home, nonetheless with the help of my fiancée and best friend, I got the keys to my very own barbershop. It wasn’t easy but We did it. I can honestly say these two figured it out when I was working most days.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It wasn’t a hard road, it was more of a family accepting me not going to college. However, I proved everybody wrong.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in male grooming. I’m most proud of my work ethic, the patience I have and the ability to want to learn more. The service I provide to my clients is what sets me apart. I get to know my clients, I communicate with them, I offer solutions.
