Today we’d like to introduce you to Raissa Lopez, President of Eastern Engineering Group.
Monique, Director of Marketing and PR for this firm, will tell us about this awesome firm. Let’s start with Eastern Engineering’s story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Eastern Engineering Group was founded in 2005 by its current President, Raissa R. Lopez, P.E. and her husband, current Administrative Vice-President, Fernando Torres. The were both born in Cuba and came to the US at an early age. After a few years of working for other Engineering companies, they felt like they had gained enough experience and decided to open their own company. A year later, they welcomed their longtime friend and current Technical Vice-President, Gonzalo A. Paz, P.E.
Despite the economic crisis that affected the country in 2008, Eastern Engineering Group proved that it was able to adapt to new circumstances. The firm stayed afloat and began practicing engineering for Specialty Structural Components, which led them to welcome two new managing members. Mario Morales as the Director of Structural Components, and Alexis Martinez as the Director of the Structural Division.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are always challenges that arise, but learning from them are what makes us so great. The 2008 recession was definitely a big challenge for us , but we managed to stay positive and look for different alternatives to maintain our company afloat.
Tell us about your business/company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
Today, Eastern Engineering Group focuses on providing professional design and consulting services in Structural and Civil Engineering, Project Administration, and Software Development. We deliver quality service to both the public and private sector, using the latest technology and computer software, some of which is generated in-house. What sets us apart from others is that we have different departments of structural engineering all under the same company. Usually, Structural Engineering companies focus on one discipline, so having multiple subdivisions is what makes us unique. We can solve multiple tasks for one project. Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Eastern Engineering Group is a big supporter of the arts and this is what we love the most about Miami. We believe Structural Engineering is the point where art and engineering meet. We love the artistic movements that are displayed all over Wynwood, and we would like The City of Doral, where we have grown, to continue this movement. To support this, we have encouraged sculpture artists to bring their designs to be displayed in the city, and we will offer free structural consultations for them.
What we like the least is hurricane season. But we have such amazing weather throughout the year, we can’t really complain.
