Today we’d like to introduce you to Rae Wilson.
Rae, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
To be honest, I’ve always been a hustler, throughout high school, I sewed dresses for my friends, did hair from braiding to sew-ins. I told myself back then that I was going to launch my brand during high school but life comes at you fast, my first year of high school my father passed away. I took that extremely hard and went into a little shell, only focusing on school. By the time it was my junior year I had the option to graduate early. I decided why not! Graduated my junior year and started college, still sewing here and there but not putting my all into it. My second year of college, my stepfather passed away. Now I was left to take care of my family; I stopped school worked two jobs day and night to be able to send my younger brother off to college, and help my mom out as much as I could. Fast forward to my brother graduating, him accomplishing that felt like me accomplishing something great. But it also was a wake-up call, reminded me that I stopped my life to make sure everyone else accomplished their dreams, that I stopped putting myself first in order to care for the ones I love and although that is an amazing thing it can cause you to feel lost. So I woke up one day and decided that this was it! If I don’t do it now, I never will! That’s how Bella Diosa was created, I decided to put my dreams first I decided to put me first and it has been the most freeing and rewarding feeling ever.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Wow ! it has been anything but smooth! If anyone tells you the being a business owner is easy they lied! So many ups and downs every day will not be great but its all about consistency. In the beginning, before my company was Bella Diosa, the previous name was Wicked Treasures. Something about that name just didn’t sit well with me, I prayed about it and decided to change the name. That was a little difficult because the EIN, company name and everything had been licensed through the state of Florida already. So I had to request a name change, change the logo, come up with a new business plan. My advice to up and coming entrepreneurs make sure you know the business name you want to use and stick to it!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bella Diosa – what should we know?
Bella Diosa to start the Bella means beautiful and Diosa meaning goddess, we women of all ages as powerful, strong beings. Now women are taking over in the industry and I love it! Bella Diosa is an online women’s clothing boutique; we have a range of items from dresses to bathing suits. We are mainly known for our custom bathing suits, aside from the wholesale items we do a lot of custom pieces as well. Our motto is confidence can speak through your clothes it doesn’t matter what you wear its how you wear it that makes an impression.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The quality that I feel is most important to the success of my business would be the fact that I never gave up consistency is key! People think that being an entrepreneur is a walk in the park and honestly I thought so too when I first started. But boy, I’ve shed tears, I’ve wanted to quit, I’ve second-guessed if it was for me. But by the grace of God is still pushing and still inspiring, and that alone keeps me going. It’s not about how you start but how you finish, slow and steady always wins the race. Don’t try and keep up with what everyone is doing by focusing on my self and my business I’ve seen enormous growth and this is only the first year!
