Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Matos.
Rachel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a visual artist my whole life.
I went to the University of South Florida and graduated with my BFA in 2011. After graduating, I immediately started teaching art and I had been doing so for about for five years when my mother discovered Microblading.
She suffers from alopecia and lost all her eyebrows way too early in her life, so she was looking into Getting microblading done for herself. Once she got the procedure done, she came home that day raving about how she thought I could make a career out of this. And how amazing I would be at it since my artwork was so ridiculously detailed, that I would probably actually enjoy all the crazy attention needed to succeed as a microblading artist.
Being that I was an artist I saw her eyebrows and I immediately thought to myself “well Dam I can do this”
So I started looking for a course until I stumbled upon Ana Perrone’s (my mentor and current employer) microblading course.
At the time, on a part-time teacher salary, I couldn’t afford the initial investment to start my new career, so I kind of let it Go for a while.
It wasn’t until a couple of months after when I found myself sitting on my mother-in-law‘s couch telling her “that I felt like this would be a great career path for me and I was stuck in my current job. I wanted something that would bring me and family more financial freedom” that she looked at me and said, “I’ll pay for it, but only if you promise that I will be your first client”… I am eternally grateful to her.
After that the rest went by pretty quick; I took my course, I practiced my ass off, I practices some more, did a couple of clients for free, my friend, my family and yes my mother-in-law and my mother are both walking around with amazing looking eyebrows!
Then one day Ana called me and offered me a job at the spa in Miami Beach and I have been working there alongside her ever since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As far as the technical part of this career, it almost felt like second nature. As if I was drawing on a different type of canvas so I found myself being really comfortable with everything I learned. Therefore, I would have to say my biggest struggle was changing careers, not knowing what might little lie ahead and taking my new family along for the ride.
I went from a job where I didn’t hold much responsibility for bringing in customers and marketing to one that solely relies on it. I had no idea what I was doing. If it was not for my husband’s constant support and encouragement I might have quit.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I work as a microblading specialist at Miami Beach Microblading. A very exclusive medspa in the heart of Miami Beach. While we offer all types of permanent makeup procedures we specialize in microblading. Alongside our owner, Ana Perrone, I specialize in natural-looking microblading.
Our goal is for our clients to have the most natural-looking eyebrows. Where you can not tell they even have a procedure done in the first place. Our attention to detail and client satisfaction is what we are known for. Our office is set up so that each client receives a one on one experience. Each one of our clients knows that when they book with us all of our attention will be on them and their needs.
Pricing:
- $50 – Consultations ( price of consultation goes towards total price of procedure)
- $425-first appointment (my pricing for virgin brows)
- $550- first appointment (my pricing for brows that have been done before)
- $150- touch up ( for existing clients)
- $250 yearly touch up ( for existing clients)
- $100- saline removal (an hour)
