Today we’d like to introduce you to Pinchas Taylor.
Hi Pinchas, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was born in South Florida and grew up there through high school. I decided at age 15 that I would like to be a rabbi after considering that I always enjoyed learning, teaching, people, and spirituality. I went to the Rabbinical College of America and was ordained. I met my wife through mutual friends and we soon moved back to South Florida where we have been for the past 13 years.
Growing up, I had a lot of non-Jewish friends and was always interested in helping them find faith awareness. Judaism does not proselytize but believes that people from all backgrounds who recognize God and live by the moral code for civilization have a place with God. This was galvanized by my interest in coaching folks from all backgrounds to enhance their faith and live a good and Godly life.
I began teaching people of all backgrounds how to live a life based on the spiritual teachings of the Hebrew Bible and scriptural tradition. This eventually led to the creation of the American Faith Coalition, which has members across the world and chapters around the United States. It is my honor to have people from multiple faith backgrounds say “That’s My Rabbi.”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the obstacles that we face and continue to face is getting past people’s preconceived views of religion. There are stereotypes people play in their minds and when they see me, who looks like an Orthodox rabbi, many people may initially feel it’s not for them.
We have thankfully won over many minds and hearts by simply being ourselves and allowing people to see the flaws in their self-created stereotypes.
We’ve been impressed with American Faith Coalition, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
